SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Protests continue to move into the suburbs and other cities of San Diego County, including one Wednesday morning in Solana Beach along Highway 101.Mayor of Solana Beach Jewel Edson helped the two organizers put a rally together in the beach community in less than 24 hours. “We really wanted to this to be our city coming together,” said Edson. Roughly 100 people showed up with signs at Solana Beach City Hall. Susana Arnold, one of the two organizers, said "this is the passion that is existing in all of us, that is absolutely sick of the injustice. I think posting memes and sitting watching the news is not enough." The group, including many families with small children, took a knee at city hall before taking their march up the 101. Arnold and co-organizer Tina Zucker said they wanted their march to be local, peaceful and safe. Many cars driving by honked in support. "We are powerful once we say something," added Zucker. 970

Someone's prank WiFi name caused havoc in Saginaw Township, Michigan on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of a Planet Fitness Gym for three hours, the Saginaw News reported. According to the Saginaw News, a Planet Fitness customer was searching for available WiFi options when they found the WiFi name "remote detonator" among the connections. The customer brought the name to the attention of the gym's manager who notified police. A bomb-sniffing dog was used, and no explosives were found. A Planet Fitness spokesperson told the Saginaw News that the manager had followed proper procedure. "If there's any suspicion of any device or anything in the club that would require police attention, the protocol is they close the facility and contact police," McCall Gosselin told the newspaper. "Safety is always first."Saginaw Township Police Chief Donald Pussehl told the Saginaw News that no crime was committed, and that the WiFi name is considered "protected speech." "There was no crime or threat. No call saying there was a bomb," he said.  1088

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested Monday morning after hitting several parked vehicles and shearing a fire hydrant in Spring Valley, sending water towards nearby homes and a church.According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 5:15 a.m. in the 9100 block of Akard Street.CHP officials said the man struck at least two parked vehicles, hit a fire hydrant and then lost control, causing his truck to flip over. The driver crawled out of his truck and tried to run away, but officers captured him a few blocks away. When the truck slammed into the fire hydrant, it caused a geyser that reached up to 40 feet in the air and flooded nearby homes and the Grace Covenant Church. Most of the water damage affected the WOW Christian Preschool at the church. School director Sally Gutierrez said both of the classrooms sustained heavy water damage, as well as the playground areas."The floor, the carpets, it all got pretty wet," said Gutierrez. "There's even water dripping down the walls from upstairs."Water crews were able to shut off the geyser after about 20 minutes. The preschool reopened in May after closing during the coronavirus pandemic. Only 10 students were enrolled, but they had planned to expand to 30 students in the fall to start the new school year."We don't really know how long we'll be closed now," said Gutierrez. "Everything's on hold. The car that crashed, it affected to many of the neighbors, but it affected us as well, and all of our families."The driver, who was placed under arrest, was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. No one else was hurt. 1643

Some eggs and embryos at a San Francisco fertility center may no longer be viable after a storage tank malfunction. The Pacific Fertility Center said a piece of equipment in its cyro-storage laboratory "lost liquid nitrogen for a brief period of time" on March 4.It is the second clinic to report a fault that weekend. In an unrelated event, more than 2,000 frozen eggs and embryos were also left compromised at the University Hospitals Fertility Clinic in Cleveland after a malfunction caused temperatures to drop in the freezers where they were stored.Viable tissue recoveredIn a statement, the Pacific Fertility Center said "viable tissue" had been recovered from the one tank affected and that "the vast majority of the eggs and embryos in the lab were unaffected."The equipment was immediately retired and the facility is now operating securely, according to the statement."As soon as the issue was discovered, our most senior embryologists took immediate action to transfer those tissues from the affected equipment to a new piece of equipment."The center said it had brought in independent experts to conduct a full investigation and was reaching out to its patients: "We are truly sorry this happened and for the anxiety that this will surely cause."The clinic's president, Carl Herbert, told the Washington Post that staff had spent days sorting through records to establish which patients had tissue inside the affected storage tank, before clinic doctors called them."Anger is a big part of the phone call," Herbert told the Post. "Our goal is to provide all the patients we see with some kind of a family. ...We need to think: If this tissue doesn't work, what are the next steps, and have you not feel defeated."CNN has attempted to contact Herbert for comment.Cleveland clinicThe equipment malfunction at the fertility clinic in Cleveland that same weekend affected about 700 families, University Hospitals reported in a statement Thursday."We are incredibly sorry this happened. We are committed to getting answers and working with patients individually to address their concerns," the University Hospitals statement said. The eggs and embryos have been moved to a different cryotank in the meantime, but their viability remains questionable. The dilemma for those involved is that their eggs and embryos have to be completely thawed to determine whether they are still viable, but if thawed, they cannot be refrozen. The facility has set up a call center for patients to arrange and appointment or calls to speak with their physicians."At this point, we do not know the viability of all of the stored eggs and embryos, although we do know some have been impacted," said Patti DePompei, president of UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, in a video posted Thursday on Facebook. "Right now, our patients and families are our first priority."Many people have been sharing personal concerns on the hospital's Facebook post. One, Marc Ellis, wrote, "my wife has eggs at that hospital...shes going crazy crying all morning...I don't know what to do..."Another, Amber Ash, wrote how sick she feels having two embryos involved in the malfunction, adding, "there is so much grief and a lack of control in the world of infertility and this compounds it."University Hospitals officials say procedure fees could be waived for future treatment, according to CNN affiliate WEWS.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.
