BOULDER, Colo. -- Officers across the country are getting backlash after the deaths of George Floyd and others at the hands of law enforcement. One officer wants people know there’s a human behind each badge and says now is a time for everyone to come together."To those of you who don't know me, I’m Vinnie Montez, a third generation Mexican American born in Boulder, Colorado," is how Montez starts his now viral video.In the video Montez, a Patrol Commander for the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, states "for the first time in my life, I’m deeply hurt because I have concluded people don’t think much of law enforcement."Vinnie Montez wears a badge and uniform to work, but he said those symbols don't define or speak for him.The commander with the sheriff's office also happens to be a stand-up comedian. His latest material is more commentary than comedy.His five-minute video has been viewed more than 1.3 million times since June 21."It’s really humbled me to be a voice, to create something from our perspective that is not intended to offend anyone, but just share our perspective and encourage people to get to know local law enforcement," Montez said of the post's meteoric views.That perspective includes the dark parts of the job we often don't see. Montez gets personal in his essay. He alludes to several difficult experiences from his law enforcement career."Do you know what it’s like to give CPR to a 17-year-old kid? To be covered in blood, to do everything you can to save his life but then die?" Montez asks in his video. "To go on those calls and try to remove that pain later on, it’s hard after the course of a career. BOULDER CITY, Nev. – What was supposed to be a routine bike ride turned into deadly crash in Nevada.Thursday morning, a box truck plowed into a group of bicyclists on U.S. 95, killing five of them.At least three other bicyclists were injured. One was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition from the scene south of Boulder City. Another one was transported by ambulance and is in serious condition. The third bicyclist suffered minor injuries.Troopers with Nevada Highway Patrol say the driver of the box truck was not hurt and is cooperating with police. They don’t believe at this time that the driver was impaired.The bicyclists did have a safety car with them at the time of the incident. However, one group of cyclists was in front of the car and the other was behind. It is not known which group was struck.“I don’t even know. It’s just the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life," said former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer Michael Anderson.He was collecting his thoughts after a horrific day. Five of his fellow bicyclists were killed after that box truck struck their group.“Try to contact their families... I don’t even know how to say it to them,” he said.Anderson says the wind caused part of the group to get behind a safety vehicle to protect themselves when the box truck hit them. The group was on an annual bike ride, making a 135-mile loop into California.NHP troopers say the crash was one of the worst they’ve ever seen.“It’s a horrific tragedy when you have a beautiful sunny day like this, and we just lost the lives of five people,” Trooper Travis Smaka said.Watch law enforcement provide an update on the crash: 1667

BOSTON, Mass. (KGTV) -- A San Diego man implicated in the college admission scandal appeared in court in Boston Wednesday. Toby MacFarlane is accused of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to get his children into USC. The documents show that MacFarlane reportedly paid an agency to fabricate a soccer profile for his daughter and a basketball profile for his son.MacFarlane reportedly paid 0,000 to various organizations for the admissions. His daughter attended the school from 2014 to 2018 when she graduated, according to the documents. His son attended the school from 2017 to 2018.RELATED: Two San Diegans charged in college admissions schemeMacFarlane is being charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.Another San Diegan is also accused of participating in the scheme. Elisabeth Kimmel, the former owner and president of a media company that owned KFMB reportedly participated in the scheme by conspiring to use bribery to get her son and daughter into prominent schools. BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) - Victims of the Lilac Fire are concerned after the Federal Emergency Management Agency overshared personal information on millions of people. The Office of Inspector General released a report showing FEMA gave 2.3 million hurricane and wildfire victims’ private information like bank account numbers, social security numbers, and home addresses to a contractor.Peter Andrew lost his home in the Lilac Fire. He’s since rebuilt, but learning the news about FEMA is concerning to him.“It’s always a concern when information is compromised, but in this case, the contractors went above and beyond, and I’d trust them with that information if it was an accident," said Andrew.Pat Damon also lost her home in the Lilac Fire. FEMA helped her rebuild, and she says she gave them all of her personal information. She’s worried after hearing they gave out personal information. She says it happens all too often though. “If someone gets into my bank account and takes my identity, I just don’t know what it would be like to deal with that," said Damon.We reached out to FEMA to find out how many Lilac Fire victims were involved in the oversharing. 1170
