(KGTV) — Border Patrol officers in the South Bay made a spicy discovery in a shipment of peppers this week.Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a 37-year-old Mexican national enterting through the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in a tractor pulling a trailer of cargo. The cargo listed jalape?o peppers on the manifest.Upon secondary inspection, a canine team alerted agents to the shipment. Officer say they discovered 314 large, wrapped packages of marijuana, weighing about 7,560 pounds. The narcotics are valued at .3 million.“I am proud of the officers for seizing this significant marijuana load,” said Otay Mesa Port Director, Rosa Hernandez. “Not only did they prevent the drugs from reaching our community, they also prevented millions of dollars of potential profit from making it into the hands of a transnational criminal organization.”The seizure followed another massive bust on Aug. 13, in which officers discovered 10,642 pounds of marijuana concealed in a shipment of plastic auto parts at the same cargo facility. 1063

Police in Germantown, Wisconsin are looking for a bathroom creeper who took pictures of a woman while she was using the restroom. It happened Monday afternoon at the McDonald’s on Mequon Road. “While she was in the stall she saw two arms holding some sort of recording device,” Police Chief Peter Hoell said. That’s when the startled woman ran out of the bathroom after the suspect. The restaurant’s manager saw the commotion and ran out of the building behind the woman, they both saw the suspect get into an old RV and take off. “The vehicle should stick out,” said Hoell. Surveillance cameras captured images of the man and his getaway vehicle. Because the man was driving an RV, the chief said he believes he may be from out of town. Hoell hopes that social media will help in the investigation. “Depending on the interest, that post might go to multiple states, we may have an opportunity to identify this person even if he is not from Wisconsin,” said Hoell. 1002

The letter was addressed last week to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau."Given the community’s isolation, there are very limited services available in Point Roberts and residents customarily travel into Canada or to Whatcom County to obtain needed goods and services, including regularly accessing schools and education centers due to quarantine rules,” Inslee said. “As such, Washingtonians living in Point Roberts face unique hardships resulting from COVID-19 border closures, including challenges for students’ academic and athletic careers, increased uncertainty for local businesses, and an inability to see family and loved ones living outside the Point Roberts enclave on the Tsawwassen peninsula."Currently, the US/Canada border is closed to non-essential travel through September 21. 1536

(KGTV) - A popular Pacific Beach restaurant is finding new life in Liberty Station, and it could be a sign of things to come for the industry.Latin Chef was forced out of its longtime home on Garnet Avenue in January. This Saturday, it will reopen at Liberty Public Station."There's not much," says owner Fredy Palma of his small space in the market. "But you won’t believe that very tasty food is going to come from here."Palma says his rent will be about half of what it used to be in Pacific Beach. He also says moving into the Public Market means he no longer has to worry about all of the little things that come along with having a brick-and-mortar location."Things like trash, telephone, light, SDG&E," he explains. He says this will let him focus more on the food and customers. Latin Chef will be the first established restaurant to move into the space."Overhead keeps going up and up and up," says Spatafore. "The idea behind the Public Market is it’s kind of a condo association of retailers and restaurants to lower overhead and share expenses, making it a little easier for them. Certainly, I can see this being a wave of the future to lower overhead because there aren’t many options left."The public market concept has grown in San Diego over the last few years. Liberty Public Market opened in 2016. (KGTV) -- A dozen undocumented migrants were arrested Thursday after they were discovered inside a stack of hay aboard a tractor trailer, Border Patrol says.According to the agency, the discovery was made at the Interstate 8 checkpoint in Pine Valley around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.USBP says a K-9 alerted Border Patrol agents about a void inside the trailer, containing the migrants.All 12 people were arrested along with the 46-year-old driver, who is a U.S. citizen, Border Patrol says.“Human smugglers have no regard for life,” said Chief Patrol Agent Aaron M. Heitke. “This tight space within the hay-stacks was not ventilated and was not designed with passenger safety in mind. I am proud of our agents.
