SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hundreds of homeless individuals remain evacuated at SDCCU Stadium after heavy rains flooded an East Village shelter this week, forcing them to leave.Flooding Thursday night overturned portable restroom facilities at the Alpha Project facility, turning the ground into a swamp of feces and human waste and inundating tents meant to house the homeless from the storm.Saturday, those evacuated remained at the Mission Valley stadium. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Harbor Police were searching for a vandal Monday who set off a panic at an upscale steak house along the Embarcadero.Customers took cover under tables and ran for the exits at Ruth’s Chris Steak House Sunday night when projectiles smashed through at least two of the restaurant’s bay-facing windows. Someone inside the restaurant shouted “gun,” prompting fears of an active shooter, customers told 10News.“It was one of the craziest things I’ve ever been through,” said Joey Giacalone, a long-time patron and former co-owner of the Venetian Restaurant in Point Loma. “I mean everyone is diving under tables. They sent us through the kitchen. Because again, no one knew what information was really out there. Investigators believe the unidentified vandal may have been a disgruntled customer who left the restaurant without paying earlier that evening, said Lt. Victor Banuelos.Joey Giacalone said the man had been acting strangely.“One guest said he saw him going into the women’s bathroom and said, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ And then he left,” he said.The Giacalones commended staff members for going “above-and-beyond” during the incident.“Everyone is panicking and these guys are saying, ‘Forget about me. "Our numbers are still way above normal so we'll take it," South Beach Bar & Grille Bartender Philip Cullin said Friday and Saturday were great for business.Next door at Lighthouse Ice Cream, those sentiments were echoed.Sunday was a different story, clouds loomed overhead with sprinkles and rain in the evening, dampening the influx of customers. "It's really cold, there's not that many people out," 14-year-old birthday girl Bella said. She came out with friends and family to celebrate.Businesses thankful to see those customers, saying it's been tough through the slow winter months.Inside the bar, Cullin said they saw lots of business Sunday, "it comes in waves, you'll get like a mad lunch rush, everybody bombs in at the same time to get their fish tacos, and then they clear out mid afternoon and your locals come in."With the pier open, they're seeing even more people, "this area gets way more congested when people are chilling at the pier," Cullin said."I found out Thursday night the pier was opening on Friday and I knew I had to get here early and start making waffle cones, it was a busy day for us, we couldn't even find parking in the morning," Lighthouse Ice Cream Manager Robbie Valdivia said.They're hopeful Memorial Day will bring sunshine and another wave of customers."We actually had them for about two weeks now, a lot of tourists here from out of town, out of state, so it's been really really nice," Valdivia said, knowing it's the unofficial start of summer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Detectives are searching for two suspects who shot a 17-year-old in the back in Golden Hill Sunday, according to San Diego Police.The shooting happened on the 2700 block of Treat Street around 9:20 p.m.The teenage boy was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said.San Diego Police said the shooting is suspected to be gang-related and detectives are searching for two suspects.The two suspects were described by police as Hispanic men driving a white or silver sedan.Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to gall the San Diego Police gang unit at 619-531-2847 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 671

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For three days, faith organizations from across the country will be in Point Loma for the San Diego National Church Safety & Security Conference hosted by Rock Church.The conference has been held for the last nine years and aims to help churches, synagogues and mosques become safer by providing tips and tools to better prepare for attacks, like mass shootings.Several topics will be discussed including how to work with law enforcement, incident reporting, emergency evacuations and more.There are also many vendors on hand, offering products and services which include surveillance systems, background checking and first aid supply kits.Organizers hope attendees will take away three main points. “Do something, don’t just do nothing. A lot of churches have anything in place, ” said Rock Church safety director Mike Diggs, who spent 20 years in law enforcement. “The other thing is, we want you to learn how to keep children safe at your establishment,” he continued. “And the third is to prepare for a critical incident, active shooter situation, natural disaster.”The event goes on until Friday.
