Hannah is Robin Utz’s miracle child.Utz tried to get pregnant for six years. Just a couple years ago, she was pregnant with another child when she found out something was wrong.“Without a placenta to support her, she’ll have no lungs and the minute she was born it would be into a life of agony and death,” Utz, a St. Louis native, said. So she had to make a difficult decision -- whether or not to end a wanted pregnancy at 21 weeks.“We had to get the abortion scheduled as soon as possible because of Missouri state laws,” she said.Missouri is a state where lawmakers are trying to ban abortions after eight weeks. Currently, it’s 21 weeks and six days. While those shorter bans were temporarily blocked by a judge, the changing laws are having an impact on reproductive health access for women.In 2019, nine states passed restrictions on abortion that would challenge the rights established in Roe v. Wade, a landmark court case stating that women have a right to an abortion without excessive regulation by the government. Hundreds have been sickened with salmonella in recent weeks due to the presence of backyard poultry, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday. According to CDC statistics, 227 have been sickened since May 16 by chickens and ducks being raised in backyard flocks. Overall, 279 people have reported salmonella illnesses this year from backyard poultry. The CDC says that many of those who reported an illness got their chicks or ducklings from agricultural stores, websites, and hatcheries. Nearly one-third of those sickened are younger than age 5. Of the 279 reported cases of salmonella, 40 have caused hospitalization. The CDC added that there has not been any reported fatalities. The CDC offers the following advice to the public: Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water right after touching poultry or anything in their environment. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not immediately available.Do not let backyard poultry inside the house, including in bathrooms. Be especially careful to keep them out of areas where food or drink is prepared, served, or stored, such as kitchens and outdoor patios.Set aside a pair of shoes to wear while taking care of your birds and keep those outside of your home.Children younger than 5, adults over 65, and people who have health problems or take medicines that lower the body’s ability to fight germs and sickness shouldn’t handle or touch chicks, ducklings, or other poultry.Don’t eat or drink where poultry live or roam.Don’t kiss backyard poultry, or snuggle them and then touch your face or mouth.Stay outdoors when cleaning any equipment or materials used to raise or care for poultry, such as cages, or feed or water containers.The CDC says that salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. For the first time, an object in our solar system has been found more than 100 times farther than Earth is from the sun.The International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center announced the discovery Monday, calling the object 2018 VG18. But the researchers who found it are calling it "Farout."They believe the spherical object is a dwarf planet more than 310 miles in diameter, with a pinkish hue. That color has been associated with objects that are rich in ice, and given its distance from the sun, that isn't hard to believe. Its slow orbit probably takes more than 1,000 years to make one trip around the sun, the researchers said.The distance between the Earth and the sun is an AU, or astronomical unit -- the equivalent of about 93 million miles. Farout is 120 AU from the sun. Eris, the next most distant object known, is 96 AU from the sun. For reference, Pluto is 34 AU away.The object was found by the Carnegie Institution for Science's Scott S. Sheppard, the University of Hawaii's David Tholen and Northern Arizona University's Chad Trujillo -- and it's not their first discovery.The team has been searching for a super-Earth-size planet on the edge of our solar system, known as Planet Nine or Planet X, since 2014. They first suggested the existence of this possible planet in 2014 after finding "Biden" at 84 AU. "But it was found in a similar location on the sky to the other known extreme Solar System objects, suggesting it might have the same type of orbit that most of them do.
