SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sheriff's deputies in East County arrested 36 people today in a warrant sweep, clearing 44 misdemeanor warrants and two felony warrants.The sweep included the cities and unincorporated areas of Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, Jamul, El Cajon, La Mesa and Rancho San Diego.The Sheriff's Department's Court Services Bureau-Field Division conducted the search and arrest of people with outstanding warrants regardless of the charge or bail amount.The department encouraged people who have outstanding warrants to turn themselves in between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at any sheriff's court facilities. 633

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Port of San Diego announced Monday a three-year pilot project to test the use of concrete tide pools as a shoreline stabilizing tool. The concrete company ECOncrete will analyze the efficacy of its concrete tide pools as a possible replacement for traditional shoreline-stabilizing tools like rock armoring. The concrete tide pools will also serve as ecosystems for aquatic animals and organisms that live in natural tide pools. The tide pools interlock like puzzle pieces and are made of low carbon concrete that, according to the company, is environmentally safe and tailored to the environment in which its placed. ECOncrete plans to install 72 of the concrete tide pools across three areas of Harbor Island's shoreline, according to the Port of San Diego. ``ECOncrete's Coastal Star tide pools have great potential to provide many benefits for San Diego Bay,'' said Port of San Diego Board Chair Garry Bonelli. ``The Port looks forward to seeing if they can provide shoreline stabilization, help guard against coastal flooding, and improve the ecology of our bay water.'' The project is the eighth approved in the Port of San Diego's Blue Economy Incubator, which is intended to streamline the process in which businesses can launch pilot projects for so-called blue technology. The port launched the incubator program in 2016 as a way to collaborate with businesses focused on restoring ecosystems, improving water quality and fisheries and monitoring the environment. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County schools are allowed to reopen for in-person teaching starting Tuesday, a day after a flurry of businesses throughout the county resumed indoor operations.Tuesday marks two weeks since San Diego County was removed from the state's COVID-19 watch list and nearly three weeks that the county's case rate has remained under 100 cases per 100,000 people.Remaining below that metric has paved the way for K-12 schools to reopen for in-person teaching, but many districts are expected to take a cautious approach to reopening.Schools that choose to reopen must follow state guidance, including mandatory face covering usage for students in third grade through high school, increased cleaning and disinfecting practices and implementing a six-foot distance requirement, where possible, in classrooms and non-classroom spaces.On Monday, San Diego County businesses including movie theaters, gyms, museums and hair and nail salons resumed indoor operations, with modifications, under newly issued state guidance. Restaurants, places of worship and movie theaters are only allowed up to 25% occupancy or 100 people -- whichever is less. Museums, zoos and aquariums are also required not to exceed 25% occupancy.Monday night, the county implemented a new policy that restaurant patrons sitting indoors must wear masks at all times, except when eating or drinking. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Padres outfielder Tommy Pham has sued a Midway District strip club where he was stabbed last month.Pham, 32, was stabbed around 10:30 p.m. Oct. 11 outside Pacers Showgirls International by an unknown person or persons who took part in a fight that broke out in the club's parking lot.According to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in San Diego Superior Court, the fight outside Pacers left Pham "trapped" inside the club.The suit alleges the club's private security "escalated the risk" to Pham "by participating in the fight and antagonizing" the fight participants.The suit also alleges club employees did not contact law enforcement "or take any reasonable measures to mitigate" the dangers.
