SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With San Diego Comic-Con fans missing the convention in-person this year, some have instead left a tribute across the street from the convention center.Fans of the pop culture event recently began leaving flowers, t-shirts, and notes of their memories from past Comic-Cons outside TinFish — a popular site for people watching and off-site SDCC experiences every year.Chris Morrow, one of the organizers of the shrine, says the tribute was organized as a way for fans to continue connecting over their shared love of the convention.RELATED: San Diego Comic-Con 2020: What to know about SDCC@Home"Residents from San Diego County got together to show love and respect to Comic-Con. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two men wearing masks and gloves robbed a City Heights jewelry store Friday.One of the men jumped a display counter and confronted an employee of the Eclipse Jewelry Store at 4213 University Ave. just east of Interstate 15, police said.One man took jewelry from display trays and put it in a bag while the second man pointed a gun at the employee.The owner told 10News the men got away with about ,000 worth of mostly gold chains. He also said he thought perhaps the men had been in the store before since they seemed to know exactly what they wanted. Both men ran off and were last seen getting into a silver colored late model Toyota or Honda heading east.No one was injured in the robbery. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — UC San Diego says it plans to begin repopulating its campus this summer, with about 30% of courses being held in person this fall.The campus says in-person classes will be limited to less than 50 students per class or 50% classroom capacity, whichever is lower. Any classes with more than 50 students enrolled will be offered remotely.Some classes will also be held in a hybrid format. The fall quarter is set to begin on Sept. 28, with student arrivals to campus being staggered to protect the capacity for testing."We aim to mitigate risk in a way that will allow UC San Diego to provide an environment for learning and offer a university experience that our students expect," said Chancellor Pradeep Khosla. "As one of the nation’s leading research universities, we have risen to meet difficult circumstances and responded with innovation every step of the way."For students attending in-person classes, facial coverings will be required, according to the school. Students will also be tested for COVID-19 monthly and when moving in on campus.UCSD plans to offer regular coronavirus testing to students, faculty, and staff, with higher frequency in testing for those who are at higher risk for infection. The campus says there will be no cost for asymptomatic or symptomatic testing for students, faculty, and staff when done at a UC San Diego Health location or through Student Health Services.“Our adaptive model considers the most current science on transmission and infection risk and will drive our determinations on the testing frequency of our various campus populations,” said project lead Natasha Martin, associate professor of medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. “We wanted a simple, easy testing process which can be delivered at scale in the fall to ensure widespread testing for early outbreak detection.“Our simulations indicate that if more than 75 percent of the population were tested per month, we would be able to detect an outbreak before there are 10 detectable infections on campus,” she said.Students aren't thrilled at the impact the coronavirus is having on their college experience."You can't really make new friends and meet new people and do many projects strictly online," Dylan Nelson said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Uber recently released a safety report highlighting the number of sexual assaults reported by passengers between 2017 and 2018.In the two years, nearly 6,000 people reported being sexually assaulted. Of those, 464 reported being raped.“When you get in the car you should be able to feel safe, like nothing is going to happen to you,” said attorney Mike Bomberger. That feeling of security is quickly evaporating in an age where it is completely normal to jump into a car with a stranger.RELATED: Uber safety report reveals nearly 6,000 reports of sexual assaultBomberger’s firm, Estey & Bomberger, represents more than 100 women in approximately 40 states who reported being sexually assaulted in Uber and Lyft rides.Three of the women reported incidents that happened in San Diego.“Each situation here in San Diego is different,” he said. “The one common theme is that a driver, a predator, took advantage of a vulnerable female in the backseat of a vehicle.”He said in most of the cases he represents, the women are intoxicated and trying to get home safely.“You're getting into a car with someone you know nothing about,” he said. “Every single woman that we represent that has been assaulted has Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.”RELATED: Uber, Lyft riders report being charged for cleanup fees for messes they didn't makeAccording to the report, more than three million Uber trips were taken daily in 2017 and 2018.Bomberger said a key part of the solution, is to install cameras or other recording devices in every Uber and Lyft driver's vehicle."What’s the likelihood of a driver who knows there’s a camera in the car to sexually assault or rape somebody in the car?" he asked. "It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize the changes of that happening are going to be exponentially lower."Uber has already started doing this in some states."I hope their intent is to roll that out in other states as well because that is the single biggest way they’re going to prevent women from being harmed and assaulted," said Bomberger. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two hundred elementary students are now the proud owners of new bikes, thanks to inmates at the Donovan Correctional Facility.For the fourth year, the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center teamed up with the correctional facility to make the event happen. The inmates raised over ,000 to pay for the bikes and accessories, with some donating money they earn working. “Certain decisions got me where I am, but better decisions that I made since then put me exactly where I am, in the fire department and on my way out the door,” said prison inmate, Andrew Breckenridge.Breckenridge was one of two inmates invited to attend that actual event at the Kroc Center. He’s being released from prison in 10 days. “It feels great, I mean I can’t describe the feeling, seeing the smiles on these kids faces,” said Breckenridge.Children who received bikes were chosen based on merit and good behavior at school. 933
