(KGTV) — Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer for most San Diegans.But there's still plenty of local theme park fun to pack into the week before kids head back to school.Disneyland, SeaWorld San Diego, Legoland, and other parks still have admission discounts available for those last-minute family trips to celebrate the end of summer.Many theme parks are also running special event festivities for guests geared toward the summer and fall — you get the best of both seasons!Here's a look at this Labor Day's fun at our region's theme parks:Disneyland: There's still time to catch the Main Street Electrical Parade at Disneyland, and get a taste of this season's Halloween festivities at Disneyland. Through Aug. 30, annual passholders can get their friend into the park at a discount. The park's recently announced annual Flex pass also gives guests another option to visit.SeaWorld San Diego: Spends some of your Labor Day weekend at SeaWorld and take in the acrobatic and LED-powered Electric Ocean show, "Cirque Electrique;" the park's summer concert series; Sesame Street Party Parade; and nightly fireworks. Weekday tickets are available online for as low as .99, valid through Sept. 30, and more deals are currently running online.Legoland California: Head over to Legoland to enjoy The Lego Movie 2 Experience, the reopened Duplo Playtown, or several other Lego-themed attractions. The park is also running San Diego resident deals, where tickets are available for .99 (two parks, two days) or .99 (two parks, one park) online.Belmont Park: Summer hasn't set on Mission Beach, where there's plenty to do at Belmont Park. Beach House is hosting live music and fun through the end of the summer, and guests can still save on passes for unlimited rides and attractions, like laser tag and mini golf, online.Knott's Berry Farm: It's the perfect time to visit Knott's Berry Farm, where its guests' last chance to visit Ghost Town Alive! and relive the days of the Wild West. All students living on-campus who have moved out, will be receiving reimbursement for both housing and meal plans, campus officials said.]SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SDSU students have largely moved out of off-campus housing as classes at the university have moved online to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.Some students are having trouble getting out of their leases. Sheli Riley has received emails from Capstone Management Company offering options to students like her daughter Kristin. "Everyone's gone. Everyone's home," says Kristin, as she and her mom made plans Saturday to pack up the apartment she shares with four friends. Saturday was the deadline for students in on-campus housing to move out. The normally bustling campus was mostly quiet. Sheli lamented the challenges for college students whose semesters have come to an abrupt halt. "You're in this great time of your life, loving every aspect of living there. All of a sudden you came home for the weekend and now it's over, she says." Sheli shared emails with 10News outlining the options they were given by the management company, which owns and operates the M@College apartments. According to the email, students can move out by April 1st and receive a small credit toward their leases. If the student finds someone to sublet, they receive an additional credit. Students are still responsible through the end of July, or the end of their lease term. Alternatively, if students choose to stay on campus, they receive a discount on rent, but the company may sublet the additional rooms of these shared apartments, which presents parents like Sheli with safety concerns. She would like to see the university intervene. SDSU sent 10News a statement saying in part, "these apartments are privately owned an operated," despite being on SDSU's campus. Capstone management also sent a statement, saying in part that they are working with the university to offer options to students. Sheli says one major frustration has been that the company has only offered a mailing address for any and all questions, rather than a phone number or email address to reach someone who might be able to help."It's hard when you hear they're doing relief from rent, nationwide... yet you get this through the university through the Montage." 2515

(KGTV) - Online travel site TripAdvisor will no longer sell tickets to attractions that breed or buy dolphins and whales, including SeaWorld, company officials said Wednesday. TripAdvisor and its subsidiary Viator planned to phase out the tickets over the next few months. The new policy will not apply to seaside sanctuaries that provide care to cetaceans already in captivity, TripAdvisor officials said. “We believe the current generation of whales and dolphins in captivity should be the last, and we look forward to seeing this position adopted more widely throughout the travel industry,” said TripAdvisor Experiences and Rentals president Dermot Halpin. “TripAdvisor is on the right side of history,” said Dr. Naomi Rose, Marine Mammal Scientist, Animal Welfare Institute, in a release issued by the travel company. “Whales and dolphins cannot thrive in captivity and enlightened tourists no longer tolerate exploiting these intelligent and socially complex marine predators for human entertainment.” SeaWorld issued a statement in response to TripAdvisor’s decision. “We are disappointed by TripAdvisor’s new position that ignores the educational value and conservation mission of professionally accredited zoos and aquariums. SeaWorld believes deeply in the mission of these organizations. As a member of World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), certified by American Humane, and accredited by Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) and Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA), as well as numerous other certifications and accreditations from leading accrediting bodies, SeaWorld maintains the highest standards of care for all animals, including cetaceans. And regardless of TripAdvisor’s position, SeaWorld will continue to advance education and animal conservation efforts along with our millions of supporters, professional scientists and other science based organizations around the world.” said Dr. Chris Dold, SeaWorld’s Chief Zoological Officer. SeaWorld officials also referred to the support of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a nonprofit accrediting body active in 12 countries. “TripAdvisor is letting voices of a radical minority dictate corporate policy, rather than listening to the voices and preferences of their customers,” said AZA president Dan Ashe. “Revenue generated at AZA facilities that care for dolphins and whales directly supports millions of dollars in animal welfare research, global conservation efforts, and critical rescue and rehabilitation activities, not the capture of cetaceans from the wild.” TripAdvisor created an animal welfare policy in 2016, banning ticket sales for experiences putting travelers into physical contact with captive wild animals, such as elephant rides.
