She won the City Council seat in District 3 in 1993.Since then, the seat has been held continuously by an openly gay person, the longest streak she knows of for any public office in the country.2020 could also be the year San Diegans elect the first openly gay mayor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents may be seeing Uber delivery drones in San Diego's skies as soon as this year.Uber Elevate, Uber's drone and air transportation leg, announced this week during the Forbes’ 30 under 30 Summit that the company will begin testing Uber Eats delivery drones in summer 2020. The company added, though, that delivery service using partner drone operators could come in the coming months.A rendering of the Uber Eats drone shows six-rotors will allow the drone to take off and land vertically, with the ability to rotate to provide more lift and speed. The drone is designed to carry a meal for two people.Uber Elevate says the drone is designed to travel a total of 18 miles or 12 miles round-trip. The company says the drone is equipped to cruise below 400 feet and comply with existing regulations to operate the aircraft.The company estimates the drone can perform a delivery in eight minutes, including time to load and unload.The company says the design has passed the design review phase and is expected to fly before the end of the year. 1073
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have identified the victim and suspect involved in a deadly downtown stabbing on July 1.According to police, 43-year-old Canthon E. Tripplett was stabbed on the 400 block of Fifth Avenue around 2:30 a.m.When they arrived, officers found a companion of the man providing first aid. The man was taken to the hospital where he later died, police say.RELATED: Man stabbed to death in downtown San DiegoAfter investigating the stabbing, police learned that Tripplett was injured during a fight with two men on the sidewalk. A man matching the description, David Zertuche, 30, was arrested for murder and has been booked into jail for the homicide. 687
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is no longer abnormally dry, according to a new report from the U.S. Drought Monitor. The report shows a large swath of Southern California having no drought. Most of California, however, remains abnormally dry, according to the report. According to the National Weather Service, the San Diego International Airport measured nearly four inches of rain since October 1st. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Council leaders Tuesday voted to approve a plan to fund three temporary housing shelters for the city's homeless.Council leaders voted 8-1 to approve the plan. Councilman David Alvarez was the only "no" vote.The largest shelter at 16th and Newton is scheduled to open by Dec. 1.
