SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - South Bay Pentecostal Church has been involved in a legal battle since May regarding worshiping indoors, and officials think Friday could be the light at the end of the tunnel.Senior Pastor Arthur Hodges believes during a motions hearing Friday morning the church will be granted permission to reopen indoors.His hope comes from the latest rulings by several judges.On Dec. 3, the Supreme Court ruled places of worship in New York could reopen, saying restrictions meant to curb the pandemic violated the First Amendment of the Constitution.After that ruling, the high court issued an unsigned order to California judges to reconsider Gov. Gavin Newsom's restrictions.On Wednesday, a judge ruled restaurants could reopen indoors in San Diego."That absolutely makes us hopeful, and I've told restaurateurs, business owners, whatever, we're fighting for you, too. Now we have a bigger gun than they do. We've got the Constitution, OK; they don't have that. but they're finding ways to get around it with the right to assemble," Hodges said.Hodges said back in May their initial lawsuit was voted down 5-4 by the Supreme Court.Hodges believes under a high court that shifted majority when Judge Amy Coney Barrett replaced the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, they will prevail."If religious liberties are lost, you can mark it down your personal liberties are going to be lost," Hodges said, arguing this lawsuit is to protect more than places of worship.Hodges said if they win this legal battle it will pave the way for the rest of the country. 1563

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small businesses trying to stay afloat amid coronavirus restrictions can apply for up to million in forgivable low-interest loans to help them get by. The Federal Small Business Administration has opened its application site for businesses with fewer than 500 employees to apply for the loans, which would have an interest rate of no more than 4 percent. The loans are part of the stimulus package Congress and the President authorized last week. They are meant to help small businesses maintain payroll and meet essential obligations like rent, mortgages and utilities at a time social distancing has eliminated most consumer spending. "Forgiveness will be reduced if full-time headcount declines, or if salaries and wages decrease."Kelly DuFord Williams, a managing partner at Slate Law Group, says this is an unprecedented opportunity for small businesses, given the low interest loan offer and six months of deferred payments. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Seven patients from Rady Children’s Hospital took a break from their treatment and got in the water with Bottlenose dolphins.SeaWorld trainer Jorge Villa hosted the children for the experience. Villa holds a special place in his heart for Rady Children’s because he was treated there when he was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 12.For many of the children, it’s therapeutic and offers them a chance to forget about whatever health challenges they face and focus on being a kid.“It just brings you into the playful childishness that you have in your heart and in your mind,” said Juliana Abraham, 14. She’s been fighting a rare form of brain cancer.  Her mom says faith, prayer, and a positive attitude have helped Juliana persevere.Rady has been offering the dolphin interaction program to patients since 2008. It was first inspired by SeaWorld dolphin trainer and cancer survivor Joy Clausen-Soto.For more information on the program, contact Rady Children’s Hospital at 858-576-1700. 1038

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Soon after the pandemic forced Chollas Creek Elementary to close its campus back in March, parents have been able to pick up meals for their children they usually received while attending classes.To help provide this service to families, the San Diego Food Bank helps distribute boxes of food to those who need it.Food Bank CEO James Floros says the organization is now serving 47 school sites in eight different districts.Before the pandemic, the Food Bank helped around 350,000 people; that number has now doubled.With distance learning continuing into the fall, non-profits, the districts, and the county are all trying to make sure kids don't go hungry while they learn at home."We knew when COVID hit that this was going to be a marathon, not a sprint and even if we had a vaccine tomorrow and COVID went away... now we're in a recession and we could be doing this for the next couple of years," Floros said.If parents can't make it to their child's school regularly to pick up meals, they can go to the Food Bank's super pantries.There are dozens of locations all over the county, each open at least three days a week to provide groceries.In addition to the Food Bank, Feeding San Diego is also partnering with local school districts to distribute food.Both websites have sections to look up where to get food in your neighborhood and what resources are available.At many locations, all you have to do is show up, no questions asked."There's enough food for everybody they just need to reach out to the San Diego Food Bank, we'll help their families," said Floros.TO HELP OR FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE SERVICES go to:https://feedingsandiego.org/get-help/https://sandiegofoodbank.org/gethelp/ 1731
