SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An El Cajon mother is searching for clues after her teenage son was brutally beaten and mugged in the East Village.Two Tuesdays ago, Sarah Swift-Farrow got the call every mother dreads. Her 19-year-old son, Titan Mellor, was in the ER and hurt badly."My heart dropped ... just a hopeless feeling," said Swift-Farrow.She believes around 2 p.m., her son, a Grossmont College student, was headed to the Family Health Centers clinic in the East Village, applying for some sort of state assistance, when it happened. Swift-Farrow learned details from the paramedics' report."He was attacked from behind by a group of people, hit in the back of the head with a glass bottle. He fell to the ground, was repeatedly punched, and lost consciousness. Then he was kicked in the face for an unknown duration of time," said Swift-Farrow.Swift-Farrow says the attackers took his keys, phone, and wallet, charging thousands of dollars in purchases on his credit cards during the next few days. As for Mellor, he suffered a concussion and a host of severe injuries."Multiple fractures in his eye socket, his nose, above the mouth, behind his ear and in the back of his head," said Swift-Farrow.She says his road to recovery won't be an easy one. His memory of the attack remains hazy."He remembers a group of six to eight males yelling at him, and then getting hit from behind," said Swift-Farrow.Swift-Farrow is making a plea for tips to help police fill in the missing details."They need to be caught because my son deserves justice, and I don’t want this to happen to anyone else," said Swift-Farrow.She says the first charge on the stolen credit card was at the nearby MTS stop. "The programs that we have here at Fuerte are really empowering the students to think differently. They are really empowering them to challenge the adults to rethink education," said Kristen Goodrich, Principal of Fuerte Elementary. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- America’s Finest City ranked high on a new list of best cities for jobs in 2019, according to WalletHub. San Diego ranked 28th out of 182 cities overall. Chula Vista also made the list, coming in 123rd place. According to the report, the national unemployment rate has fallen to an 18-year low of just 3.7 percent, while hiring also is up. College graduates are also beginning to see the benefits of the strong job market. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers plan to hire 16.6 percent more members from the class of 2019 compared to the previous year. Though San Diego secured a strong spot on the list, many cities ranked higher. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - All month long recreational vehicle owners staying at the Dreams for Change safe parking lot have been desperate to find a new place to stay. They were given 30-day notices to leave the site by the end of July. Dreams for Change leadership says it was always their intention to shift clients to the City's new safe parking lot, located near SDCCU stadium. However, the new safe parking lot has gone mostly unused. RV owners are required to move their vehicles during the day, which can be a barrier for some.CEO of Dreams for Change, Teresa Smith, says they've now come up with a temporary solution. RV owners will be allowed to leave their vehicles on the property, but they will have to go during the day.The nonprofit must balance serving their clients while also abiding by permitting and zoning rules. They are working to treat RVs the same way cars are treated in the program.Smith says the ultimate goal is to transition clients into permanent housing, who receive assistance from a caseworker. According to the Dreams for Change website, 2,650 people have been served through the program since 2009, and 65% of participants find housing or long-term transitional housing within three months of coming into contact with the nonprofit. 1268

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A second lawsuit has been filed by family members of a mother and daughter killed by a YouTube star in a deadly wrong-way crash last year.18-year-old Trevor Heitmann, known as McSkillet on YouTube, drove his McLaren the wrong way on I-805 in August 2018. The crash killed Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana. This latest lawsuit was filed August 22nd by Angelo Pizarro and Arcelio Garcia. Pizarro is one of the sons of Aileen Pizarro. Garcia is the father of Aryana. A lawsuit earlier this summer was filed by Aileen Pizarro's other son, Dominic, and her father. The lawsuit claims wrongful death and negligence by the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego. The family is also suing Heitmann’s estate. It states that San Diego police received a “mental case” call that Heitmann was “screaming, paranoid and delusional and threatening to harm his mom.”Police were advised by a licensed psychiatrist that Heitmann needed to be “possibly placed on a 5150 mental hold,” according to court records. However, officers did not speak to or evaluate Heitmann to determine if he was a danger to himself or others. The lawsuit also states that “one or more of the Police Officers represented or implied that they were part of a San Diego County Psychiatric Emergency Team.”Team 10 reached out to both county and city officials. As of Wednesday afternoon, there was no comment regarding the lawsuit from the city. A county spokesperson said they have not seen the lawsuit yet. Cynthia Chihak, the attorney for Pizarro and Garcia, sent Team 10 a statement which reads in part:"I am privileged to represent Angelo Pizarro, the son of Aileen Pizarro, and Arcelio Garcia, the father and sole heir of twelve year old Aryana Pizarro, who were killed on August 23, 2018 when their car was struck head-on by a McLaren automobile driven by Trevor Heitmann... This family is not excusing Mr. Heitmann’ s reckless behavior, but believe this tragic loss of three lives could have been prevented if the City of San Diego has taken seriously earlier reports of his violent and dangerous behavior. The loss suffered by this young man Angelo, of his mother and sister and the loss to Mr. Garcia of his daughter can never be rectified.
