CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Firefighters are battling a major fire in Corpus Christi following a pipeline explosion along the city's refinery row.The blast happened just after 8:05 a.m. near Lantana and I-37, possibly at EPIC Products near Lantana and Navigation.Firefighters said the fire ignited a barge, which became fully engulfed. The fire then spread from the pipeline to the grain elevator.KRIS reports that multiple people during the explosion ended up in the water.CHRISTUS Spohn Shoreline representatives said they are treating four people from the explosion. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. Two victims are being flown to Brooke Army Medical Center burn units in San Antonio.Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb said there is a search and rescue operation for four people who are still missing.KRIS has learned that EPIC Products had a brand new pipeline built for loading. It was reportedly going in at the facility when there was a pipeline rupture at the barge loading dock.According to Lieutenant Marina Lyons with the US Coast Guard, a dredge struck a submerged pipeline causing a fire in the Corpus Christi ship channel. The owner of the barge said they had multiple employees working at the site at the time of the explosion.The Corpus Christi Police Department has closed off Lantana Street to traffic as crews work to contain the inferno. 1379

Conditions on a breeder's property during an animal rescue operation near Nashville were so toxic that the leader of the rescue team nearly died from ammonia poisoning.Scotlund Haisley, the founder of Animal Rescue Corps, led a team along with sheriff's deputies to the home of a breeder. It was called Operation Noah's Ark.They rescued 150 animals from horrible conditions - conditions that were so bad, Haisley was poisoned by fumes and needed a blood transfusion to survive.Haisley wasn't feeling well, but he was still up and around two days later giving a tour of the shelter."This is what it takes to care for 150 animals. All of these volunteers," said Haisley pointing to his team.Moments later, he became violently sick.ARC has made hundreds of rescues over the years, almost all of them are in deplorable conditions.Yet, this one was in many ways the worst and most dangerous. Inside the structures, Haisley found an unbelievable amount of feces and urine, which produced the highest ammonia levels he'd ever encountered. He still went in."The animals were in there. They were suffering greatly. We had to get them out," said Haisley.Free from that toxic environment, the animals immediately began getting better, but Haisley got worse."Extreme nausea, couldn't hold food or beverages down and very exhausted," Haisley said describing his symptoms.Haisley talked to us later by phone after his release from the hospital for what turned out to be acute ammonia poisoning which required a massive blood transfusion. Doctors told him he nearly died."I've experienced ammonia before. This is a whole new experience for me," said Haisley.However, it won't change his mission. The experience made Haisley even more determined to rescue animals.He now knows, more than ever, that no living creature should ever live in such conditions.Experts say the toxic fumes found at some deplorable sites where animals are rescued can be comparable with those found at a meth lab.Haisley says crews often will wear oxygen masks, but now for extreme cases, they are looking to buy some protective full-body suits. 2187

CORONADO (KGTV) -- A man was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman on a boat anchored in San Diego Bay, Harbor Police announced.Pablo Alvarez, 38, was booked on five felony counts related to sexual assault by force, according to jail records.The alleged assault happened in the waters off Coronado's Tidelands Park in what's known as the A-4 anchorage, a place where several dozen boats are anchored just north of the Coronado Bridge.There is no dock, so boaters must use a dinghy or a kayak to access the larger vessels in the anchorage.Early Wednesday morning, the victim fled a sailboat in the anchorage using a kayak, but the kayak capsized in the darkness, forcing the woman to swim the rest of the way to shore, said Harbor Police Lt. Victor Banuelos.The woman managed to call the police just before 4:45 a.m.Alvarez and the woman were the only people on board the sailboat at the time, according to Banuelos. The nature of their relationship is under investigation.Alvarez is scheduled to appear in court Friday.Harbor Police asked anyone with information to call detectives at 619-686-8132. 1141

Consumers are already spending big this holiday season, particularly online.With Black Friday right around the corner and the COVID-19 pandemic keeping shoppers online, consumers spent nearly billion while online shopping between Nov. 1 and Nov. 10, according to Check Point Security Software.But along with that increase in online shopping, Check Point also says it has seen a massive uptick in scammers looking to take advantage.In the last month alone, the company says malicious shopping emails have jumped from 1 in every 11,000 to one in every 1,000."They're using some of those again less sensational but very frequent terms like 'cheap' and 'sale' and 'percentage off' and 'special offers' to attract folks to click on some of these unsolicited emails," Mark Ostrowski of Check Point Software said.Scammers are using convincing lookalike emails to conduct phishing campaigns in the U.S. and abroad. One malicious email mimicked an ad for a Pandora jewelry that looked legitimate — outside of a misspelling of "Pandora."Ostrowski says shoppers should pay attention to grammar and spelling mistakes in marketing emails — they could be a red flag for scams. He also recommends mousing over hyperlinks before clicking on them to double-check where they're sending you.Ostrowski also says to be aware of seemingly legitimate emails that request personal information or passwords."I can't tell you how many times that I get an email — every single week — about how I need a password to be reset that I never asked to be reset," he said. "The one I've been getting the most lately is open enrollment. I get an email for open enrollment for healthcare every week, and I know that we're not doing that for at least another month."The Better Business Bureau also says it has seen a rise in online shopping scams, and more than 80% of those who fall victim to them lose money. Many of those scams aren't arriving as emails but are coming up in Google searches and social media posts. The BBB recommends taking time to research a website before deciding to make a purchase.Finally, experts recommend setting strong passwords for online accounts. Nordpass reports that hackers can easily steal information from accounts protected by easy-to-guess passwords, like 123456. Cleveland Police say a 16-year-old boy wound up in the ICU at Metro Health because his dad forced him to confront a bully.Police put a warrant out for 36-year-old Carlos Conner, wanted on a felony child endangerment charge.According to a police report, last week Conner forced his 16-year-old son to fight his bully on the street.“My nephew seen the guy who’s been bullying him for a year and a half and he jumped out the car,” said Conner’s sister, Cynthia Conner.Conner says the police report doesn't tell the whole story and that her nephew took it upon himself to fight the other teenager. Both are students at James Rhodes High School.“I think he did the parental, smart thing, let them fight and said ok, after the fight was over, said ok, the fight was over, took his child and took him to the hospital,” she said.Except, when the 16 year old arrived at the hospital, police say it was discovered he had bleeding in his brain and was taken to the intensive care unit.The bullying, according to Conner, started on social media. Her brother, she says, made numerous attempts to stop it, but the problem was never solved.“This has been going on for a year and half, you don’t think my brother could’ve forced him to get out the car a year and a half ago? Here, here he is, I’m going to bring you right to him, fight him. My brother’s not a bad guy,” she said.Conner claims this was in fact a dispute between her brother and his ex-wife who filed the police report.According to the police report, detectives did not get a statement from the 16 year old and have not yet identified the other teen involved. 1616
