SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surgeons at UC San Diego are using new technology that offers more options for patients who have complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms. UC San Diego Health System is the first on the West Coast to use Dynamic Morphology Correction, a type of 3D imaging. It allows surgeons to compare scans taken before the procedure to real-time pictures during the surgery.Dr. Mahmoud Malas, Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at UC San Diego, says this type of technology uses minimal iodine contrast which lessens the chance of kidney problems for 25 percent of patients dealing with aneurysms.The data from this technology helps surgeons across the country.Dr. Malas adds, " They create prediction models that helps future surgeons perform procedures more accurately." 795

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating after a body was found on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton Thursday afternoon.According to CHP, the body of a 51-year-old man was found on the exit ramp from I-5 north to Christianitos Road.Once officers arrived, they found the San Clemente man out of view in the brush next to the road.The San Diego County Medical Examiner responded to the scene and is trying to determine the cause of death. The DMV is also recommending that state law enforcement be flexible when reviewing driver license or identification and vehicle registration. The DMV said it may choose to waive registration penalties, as well.California's DMV offices are open amid several closures around the state due to the coronavirus, but are working to increase access to services outside the office. 2082

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sunset Hills Elementary school in Rancho Pe?asquitos has been honored for having the top-ranked School Safety Patrol in the city.The program is a partnership between San Diego Unified School District, Poway Unified School District, and the San Diego Police Department. Students participate by helping serve as crossing guards before and after school. Officer David Valdez, who oversees the team at Sunset Hills and four other schools, says the students learn leadership, community service, and volunteerism. "I have a lot of fun with them," Valdez told 10News. "It's great seeing them develop over the course of the school year."About 90 schools participate in the progam, encompassing 2,000 student volunteers. Each student is eligible to apply for the top honor of being designated as the "Colonel". This year, Sunset Hills student Maddie Smith won. "It's a great feeling," she said. "WHen you help a kid during something, even if it's just a small act, it makes you feel really good inside."Smith has ambitious goals. "I want to be the President when I grow up and I feel like this is a great way to lead me up to that. I will learn how to be a great leader, teamwork, a good citizen. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The future of Horton Plaza was teased in a new set of renderings released by the firm that purchased the aging mall.Stockdale Capital Partners purchased Horton Plaza in June 2018 with the aim of revitalizing the center into a mixed-use high-tech office and retail space. Wednesday, the firm gave a glimpse at The Campus at Horton, showing a completely transformed Nordstrom building from a concrete facade into a glass-covered office space. The building will also see an addition 150,000-square-feet of space added to the existing structure.RELATED: Time's up: Horton Plaza says goodbye to iconic Jessop's Clock“The Campus at Horton is exactly what we hear some high tech companies are seeking in San Diego,” Mark Cafferty, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, said in a release. “The existing open floor plans and expansive square footage of the current Horton Plaza are perfectly suited to the design and layout of modern office spaces.”Another addition teased is an "amenity deck" that will take the current place of the mall's food court.
