OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A fire that broke out Friday afternoon in Oceanside burned one victim, fire officials said.The flames were reported about 3 p.m. in the 600 block of Sleeping Indian Road. Oceanside Fire reported the "main fire has been knocked down" by 4:15 p.m., however crews expected to be on scene for several more hours.One person was burned and is being taken to the hospital, according to Oceanside Fire.Officials said the fire started in an area of RVs and spread to mulch. A neighbor told 10News the mobile homes belong to people who work in the area. Hazmat crews were called in after firefighters learned of previous drug activity on the property. There was also a concern about fuel and propane on site. However, Hazmat crews did not find any hazardous materials present. Five brush rigs and four engines were sent to the scene, fire officials said. OTAY MESA WEST, Calif. (KGTV) — One person was injured after a confrontation following a South Bay party ended in gunfire.San Diego Police said a 38-year-old man had attended a party on Beyer Blvd. in Otay Mesa West before confronting an "old acquaintance" in a parking lot just before 6 a.m.The two got into an argument and the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the man in the legs, police said.The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.Police only described the suspect as a 26-year-old Hispanic man.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000 or 858-484-3154, or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 643

OCEAN BEACH (KGTV) - People in Ocean Beach have hatched a (not-so) secret plan to bring a popular mermaid statue back to town."We’re go-getters. We’re not going to give in. This is going to be a mission," says Claudia Jack, the self-proclaimed leader of Team Mermaid.For three weeks in May and June, a mermaid statue sat atop Ross Rock near Sunset Cliffs. Nicknamed 'Marina', the statue brought tourists and locals to the area to take pictures.For some, it was a nuisance, bringing more traffic and trash. Jack says that's one reason they don't plan to put the mermaid back on the rock."It's my goal to get her repaired and put her somewhere that she'll be appreciated," she says.The mermaid was secretly removed in June by a group calling themselves the Cliffs Crew. For a while, no one knew what had happened to it. Jack says she knows where Marina is located but won't reveal her location."I have not revealed any names or whatever," she says. "It's very hush-hush. But it will come out in the end. In a happy way."Jack has enlisted the help of a few friends and artists to repair some minor damage to Marina. She's also trying to get the entire community involved. Earlier this month, she sent out 300 postcards with a picture of the mermaid on the front. The back simply read "Save the OB Mermaid" and had an email address.She says the response has been overwhelming."What little girl doesn't want to be a mermaid?" she asks.Jack plans to unveil Marina as a statue at the Ocean Beach Holiday Parade in December. After that, she plans to let local businesses bid for the rights to host the statue for a few months at a time. She says the money raised would be used for upkeep.Jack says she already has two local businesses who have expressed interest. After that, she wants to commission a bronze replica that can be a permanent statue near the Ocean Beach Pier.The hope is that Marina can become a local icon like the Cardiff Kook or the Lemon Grove Lemon."She's alive," says Jack. OAKLAND, Calif. — Twitter says it will label or remove misleading claims that try to undermine public confidence in elections.This includes attempts at undermining people's faith in the process itself, such as false claims about election rigging or ballot tampering.It also includes misleading claims about the results of elections, like claiming victory before results have been certified, or inciting unlawful conduct to prevent a peaceful transfer of power or orderly succession.“The goal is to further protect against content that could suppress the vote and help stop the spread of harmful misinformation that could compromise the integrity of an election or other civic process,” wrote Twitter in a blog post.The policy goes into effect Sept. 17. It applies globally, not just to the U.S., which is holding presidential elections Nov. 3.Many people are expected to vote by mail, which is likely to delay election results.Twitter says its policy of labeling, rather than removing violating tweets from world leaders, will still apply.“We will not permit our service to be abused around civic processes, most importantly elections,” Twitter wrote. “Any attempt to do so — both foreign and domestic — will be met with strict enforcement of our rules, which are applied equally and judiciously for everyone.” 1318
