SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A woman is on high alert after she says a six-foot-long rattlesnake nearly attacked her dog Friday.20-year-old Willow Godshalk-Gross says she let her small dog out just before 10 a.m. Friday on the 7100 block of Mariposa Street.According to the 20-year-old, the dog started running around when Willow noticed a snake. She quickly grabbed the dog and started running back inside.Firefighters responded and found the massive red diamond rattlesnake cozying up net to some rocks near a fence line.A firefighter was able to safely remove the snake with tongs. Crews say this rattlesnake is the largest they’ve ever seen.After being fed and taken care of by a 3rd party, the snake will be released into the wild. 755

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Police in San Francisco made a horrifying discovery after a man was reported missing.According to KRON, police found the remains of a headless torso in a fish tank inside a San Francisco home.Neighbors hadn’t seen the homeowner in months and police were called to the home in July to do a wellness check, but men inside the home said the homeowner was simply on vacation.After returning to the house, police found the remains they say were so badly decomposed, they couldn't tell whether the victim was a man or a woman. One man was arrested in the case, but charges have yet to be filed. 626

(KGTV) — Flames sparked in heavy brush in a Santee riverbed on Thursday, spreading dangerously close to several homes.The three- to four-acre brush fire was reported off Mission Gorge Rd. and Fanita Dr. just after 12 p.m. Sky10 video showed flames in the brush behind homes along Willowgrove Ave.At least one helicopter responded to the fire and quickly began making water drops, pulling water from the San Diego River nearby. Several firefighters were also on the ground spraying the flames from behind homes.One firefighter has been injured, though the severity of their injuries was unclear.San Diego Sheriff's Department said seven or eight homes need to be temporarily evacuated, but should be able to return home since the fire has been contained.SDSO closed Carlton Hills Blvd. between Mission Gorge Rd. and Carlton Oaks Dr. while crews fought the blaze.Crews are expected to be in the area into the night to mop up the area. 955

(KGTV and AP) — A former Camp Pendleton Marine was found guilty Wednesday of the murders of five women in Southern California more than two decades ago, including a San Diego woman in 1988.Orange County jurors convicted Andrew Urdiales of five counts of murder with enhancements for attacking a volunteer usher after a college piano concert and picking up four prostitutes, driving them to remote or deserted areas, having sex with them and killing them.The verdict raises to eight the number of women killed by the 53-year-old former Marine.Urdiales was previously convicted of killing three women in Illinois in 2002 and 2004. He was given a death sentence that was commuted to life without parole after Illinois barred the death penalty.He was extradited to California in 2011 to stand trial in the murders of five women in Riverside, Orange and San Diego counties between 1986 and 1995. (KGTV) — An elderly, disabled man has died after his East County mobile home caught fire.The man, who authorities say had trouble getting around, called first responders to the fire at 8301 Mission Gorge Rd. around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department bomb and arson unit.Deputies arrived but thick smoke prevents them from immediately entering the building and had to wait for fire crews.The man was later found dead inside. His identity has not been released.It's not yet clear how the fire started but investigators believe it began in the back of the home.Nearby mobile homes were evacuated for a short time before residents were allowed to return. 714
