Now the company will test its strength at the store.CEO Philip Krim said Casper will open 200 stores across the country in the next three years. The Wall Street Journal first reported the company's plans."It will give us a footprint to help educate consumers," he said in an interview.The announcement is a clear signal that Casper, an online startup that launched in 2014, believes a physical presence is still a crucial part of retail.Casper has recently rolled out 19 pop-up stores in markets like New York and San Francisco, and Krim said they are beating expectations, convincing the company to expand deeper."The presence of physical stores increases both offline as well as online sales," said Barbara Kahn, a marketing professor at Wharton.A permanent store footing will help Casper build loyalty with current customers, gain exposure among new shoppers, and increase impulse buys that can only come from browsing physical locations, she said.In addition, people usually want to try out mattresses and bedding before they make a final purchase, and stores will give Casper another way to appeal to them.The plan marks a new front for Casper, which broke into an industry controlled by brick-and-mortar retailers like Mattress Firm and Sleepy's.Casper distinguished itself by pricing the only mattress it sold at the time below its competitors, as well as offering free delivery and a 100-day trial period at home."Consumers have long gone into traditional mattress stores feeling uninformed and have been subject to ridiculous price points," said Bob Phibbs, CEO of the consultancy Retail Doctor.Casper offers just three varieties of mattresses, which gives it an advantage over rival mattress stores that offer a confusing array of soft, firm, foam, springy, and everything in between, Phibbs noted.Casper gained attention online with customers posting videos of themselves unboxing mattresses on social media, racking up 0 million in sales during its first full year.As it continued selling direct-to-consumer online, moving into bed frames, sheets, pillows, and dog mattresses, Casper partnered with retailers like Nordstrom, Target, and West Elm to increase distribution.Stores will help Casper stand out in a crowded mattress environment. (KGTV) - Food insecurity is a problem in San Diego year-round, and that problem has become worse with the pandemic.Campo, in San Diego's East County, is an area that struggles with access to food year-round because of its far distance. Many people choose to live in the area because of the rural setting, but also because of the lower cost of living.“We’re really below the poverty level out here. We’re lower in income out here and so grocery stores aren’t readily available right around the corner,” said Julie Atherton, a site coordinator for a food distribution that happens twice a month.Atherton said the closest major store is at least a half hour drive, so the pop-up food banks with food supplied by Feeding San Diego are crucial throughout the year, but the need has grown during the pandemic.“We serve a lot of seniors, a lot of families that have been affected by the COVID,” said Atherton.She said the older people who live in Campo are the ones who need to be more careful during the pandemic, so many of them are trying to avoid stores. This caution, combined with an already existing difficulty with getting to the store, has created a heightened problem surrounding food insecurity. CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. -- There were no survivors from a plane crash Thursday night in Carroll County, according to Indiana State Police. The Cessna 441 went down around 7:30 p.m. local time in a field near Carroll County Roads 500 West and 600 South, just north of Rossville.The plane took off from Eagle Creek Airport in Indianapolis at 7:21 p.m., according to flight records. It was headed to Green Bay-Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay, Wisconsin.At 7:39 p.m., data shows that the plane was between 18,000 feet and 28,000 feet when it disappeared off radar, sources told Scripps station WRTV in Indianapolis. Shortly after, multiple people called 911 in Carroll County, reporting a plane down. People who live in the area who heard the crash say it sounded like thunder.First responders had trouble finding the wreckage at first because it was so dark and far back in a field. They eventually used ATVs and other off-road vehicles to access the area. WRTV learned that there were at least three people on board.There is no word on what caused the plane to go down. Officials with the FAA and NTSB are expected to arrive on the scene Friday morning to begin their investigation.  1275

California, get ready for nonstop flights to Hawaii on Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines announced on Thursday that four California cities will serve nonstop flights to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu (HNL), Kahului Airport on Maui (OGG), Lihue Airport on Kauai (LIH), and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole (KOA). Southwest Airlines plans to fly to those Hawaiian cites from Oakland Metropolitan Airport (OAK), San Diego International Airport (SAN), Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) and Sacramento International Airport (SMF). The Texas-based airline plans to sell tickets to Hawaii sometime in 2018. The service plans are pending FAA approval.  743
