A new grand jury report says that internal documents from six Catholic dioceses in Pennsylvania show that more than 300 "predator priests" have been credibly accused of sexually abusing more than 1,000 child victims."We believe that the real number of children whose records were lost or who were afraid ever to come forward is in the thousands," the grand jury report says."Priests were raping little boys and girls, and the men of God who were responsible for them not only did nothing; they hid it all. A Texas man has been arrested after police said he was searching the dark web for a young girl to kill and to eat.Alexander Nathan Barter, age 21 of Shelby County, Texas, is in police custody ... he allegedly told an undercover officer of his plan, KTRE television station reports. He allegedly wrote a post on the dark web seeking others to help him commit necrophilia and cannibalism, KTRE reports. He gave two encrypted email addresses, and a special agent working undercover contacted him.The agent told Barter he had a daughter he could kill, and when Barter went to meet who he believed would be an accomplice and his "daughter," he was arrested.Barter is in jail and faces charges of criminal solicitation, criminal attempt: capital murder, conspiracy to commit capital murder and criminal attempt: sexual performance on a child, all felonies, KTRE?reports. 882

A staff member at a Michigan school is on administrative leave after a student says a teacher assaulted him for not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance. According to Brian Chaney, his 11-year old son Stone Chaney was in homeroom class the first week of school when a teacher snatched him out of his seat and forced him to stand for the Pledge. "He said, 'During the Pledge the teacher snatched me out of my chair,'” Brian said. Stone is a sixth grader at East Middle School in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Stone says he’s been sitting for the pledge since second grade when his father explained why he had the choice. His father says there’s never been an issue until now. Stone says the next day, another teacher yelled at him for the same thing, asking him if he had permission to sit during the pledge."For him to be violently snatched out of his chair by a lady and order him to stand and for her to just glare at him, it's wrong, it's a violation of civil rights," Chaney said.Farmington Public Schools Superintendent George Heitsch says they’re investigating the allegations.“We respect the rights of any individual to make personal choices around issues of faith and beliefs. A Mesa woman is taking action for her kids after claiming to notice an influx of scorpions at her apartment complex. Kayla Balodis, her fiancé, and two young children moved into an apartment complex at the Lakeview at Superstition Springs in Mesa six months ago.    During the walk-through, she says she found scorpions in the apartment, but the management told her it was likely just because the unit had been vacant for so long. When the family moved in; however, Balodis says they kept coming across more and more scorpions.   "It's like a nightmare; we're living in a nightmare. This place is basically infested. It's not just one or two. They're everywhere," said Balodis. She says she took her complaints to the front office, but didn't have much success."They kinda act like it's no big deal," she said.  The scorpions went away for the winter but have started to return now that the temperature is heating back up. So to prove her point, Saturday night Balodis and her fiancé went out with a blacklight and fishbowl to capture as many as they could.Balodis said they found them along the walls, on the roof, on the base of trees, and crawling up palm trees. She says within 20 minutes they had caught about 40 scorpions. Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix reached out to the front office and was told because of the holiday management couldn't answer any questions until Monday, but assured reporters that they handle each concern promptly.  Within an hour of the call, Balodis says she got an email from the front office telling her they'll reach out to pest control again and the situation will be taken care of.  But Balodis says the only thing she wants is to get out for the safety of her kids."I can't live like this; I'm afraid of the summer because we moved in September and we had an issue. I don't want to see what the summer is gonna look like," said Balodis. On Monday, KNXV returned to Balodis's apartment with a pest control expert for tips on how to insect-proof an apartment. Ryan Michel, with Defense Pest Control, says scorpions can fit through cracks the width of a credit card. "Your first line of defense is to make sure all windows and doors are sealed well. If you can see light through a crack, a scorpion can most likely get in through there," said Michel. Michel says the best thing to do to prevent scorpions are glue boards or “sticky boards” and to place them near entryways and near cracks where scorpions can enter.  2590

A nationwide onion recall this summer is hitting meal prep kits. HelloFresh is urging customers to throw away onions from certain meals recently shipped out.The meal prep home delivery company says they were informed by one of their suppliers it is voluntarily recalling onions because of a potential presence of salmonella bacteria.Thomson International, Inc., based in California, issued a recall of all onions distributed after May 1 because of potential contamination with salmonella bacteria. They are a large supplier of onions, and the recall has impacted grocery stores and restaurants in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.All onions received between May 8 and July 31 should be discarded.
