SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some San Diego fitness studios and hotels are getting creative by working together.F45 Training San Diego East Village and the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego are partnering to offer outdoor fitness classes this weekend.George Chmiel, the F45 studio owner, said that when they heard about the new public health orders to shut down more indoor spaces, they immediately looked for outdoor space.Meanwhile, the nearby Hard Rock Hotel San Diego has an 8,700 square foot rooftop terrace that's sitting empty. It's typically used for events and parties, but none are happening due to the pandemic. The hotel has allowed F45 to use the space without charge."Two industries that have been hurt by this current situation we're going through, are the hospitality and fitness industries," said Rana Kay, the director of communications at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego. "We feel the pain at the gyms when they were recently shut down once again.""I think it's a great collaboration of businesses that have just gotten kicked in the face to find a unique way to weather the storm and potentially grow through this," Chmiel said.Chmiel says the plan is to hold one class on Saturdays and Sundays, and two classes on the weekdays.Kay says it could also benefit their guests. They hope people staying at the hotel will eventually take part in the classes as an option because fitness areas in the hotel are currently closed.Hapa Yoga & Fitness in Mission Valley says they have also turned to hotels since their indoor studio space closed. They are renting outdoor space at the nearby Marriott in Mission Valley. 1620

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Signs posted at the Cowles Mountain trailhead warned San Diego hikers to leave their dogs at home during hot weather. While only three miles long, the trail in Mission Trails Regional Park is steep and often rocky, with no shade. During the cooler months, the trail is popular for dog owners. County experts say dogs with short snouts, like bulldogs, pugs, and Boston terriers, can have difficulty catching their breath in hot weather. The high heat also puts stress on puppies, older dogs, and overweight pets. RELATED: Check your 10News Pinpoint Weather ForecastDogs get dehydrated faster and are more susceptible to heatstroke than humans. “If the temperature inside your house is cooler than outside, keep your dog indoors,” county experts say. Experts recommend :Exercise in the early morning and return before midday.Consider your dog’s fitness level. Match the trail with his endurance in mind.Take more water than you think you’ll need and a water bowl.Take plenty of breaks, preferably in the shade.Check your dog’s paws regularly to make sure they’re not getting burned.Watch for signs of dehydration or heatstroke. They can include excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness or bright red gums, refusal to walk further, collapse, shaking, shock and seizures. If your dog suffers any of these symptoms, stop, preferably in the shade, and offer water. Try to cool your dog off by pouring water over them and then take your pet to the nearest vet.Never leave your dog in the car during summer-like temperatures. On an 85-degree day, a car can reach 102 degrees in 10 minutes and soar upward to 120 degrees –even with the windows down an inch or two. Dogs can suffer brain damage, heatstroke and death.RELATED: San Diego County park rangers recommend these trails in 2019 1810

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Students at an East San Diego school will meet Thursday to decide how to honor two classmates murdered in Tijuana this month.Christopher Alexis Gomez, a 17-year-old senior at O'Farrell Charter School in Encanto, and 18-year-old Juan Suarez-Ojeda, who graduated from the same school last year, were found shot to death in Tijuana on Nov. 25. Gomez's cousin, Katheryn Garcia, told 10News Wednesday that the two teens were likely tortured in different locations before being killed execution-style and left in front of the Lomas Verdes housing complex.Another teen believed to be Ojeda's friend was also killed.Students at O'Farrell Charter are set to meet with school officials Thursday to decide how to honor their two classmates. The school has also set up a GoFundMe page to help Gomez’s and Suarez-Ojeda’s families with funeral costs and expenses.RELATED: Two San Diegans, Mexican teen shot to death in TijuanaFurther details regarding the murders have yet to be released by authorities.Garcia told 10News her cousin said he was heading to a barbecue in Ensenada on Friday. According to Punto Norte, investigators believe the three killed were taken from an apartment at gunpoint, forced to kneel, and then shot. It's unclear why the teens were targeted.“They’re monsters. Who does that to three young boys who had their whole life ahead of them," Garcia said. The teens' murders are in addition to four other deadly shootings in Tijuana that happened over the same weekend, according to Tijuana news reports. 1537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several San Diegans are facing charges for reportedly participating in a college admissions scheme. One of the people accused in the scheme is Toby MacFarlane, who was a senior executive at an insurance company living in Del Mar, according to the indictment. According to the document, MacFarlane participated in the scheme by agreeing to use bribery to get his son and daughter into USC for soccer and basketball. RELATED: Actresses Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin charged in alleged college admissions scheme The documents show that MacFarlane reportedly paid an agency to fabricate a soccer profile for his daughter and a basketball profile for his son. MacFarlane reportedly paid 0,000 to various organizations for the admissions. His daughter attended the school from 2014 to 2018 when she graduated, according to the documents. His son attended the school from 2017 to 2018. MacFarlane is being charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. The other San Diegan accused in the scheme is Elisabeth Kimmel, a former owner and president of a media company that owned KFMB. LIST: These are all the people charged in the alleged college cheating scamKimmel reportedly participated in the scheme by conspiring to use bribery to get her daughter into Georgetown as a tennis recruit and her son into USC as a track recruit for pole vaulting. Kimmel’s daughter attended Georgetown beginning in 2013 and graduated in 2017. According to the documents, Kimmel paid 0,000 to various organizations for the admissions. Kimmel is being charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Both Kimmel and MacFarlane were taken into custody in San Diego Tuesday morning. Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were also charged in the nationwide conspiracy. Athletic coaches from Yale, Stanford, USC, Wake Forest and Georgetown, among others, are implicated in the case. The extensive case involved arrests in six states across the country, and accused the defendants of committing crimes between 2011 and 2019.Federal prosecutors said the scheme had two major pieces. In the first part, parents allegedly paid a for-profit college prep organization -- Southern California-based The Key -- to cheat on the SAT or ACT entrance exams by having others take the tests on behalf of students or correct their answers. Secondly, the organization allegedly bribed college coaches to help admit the students into college as recruited athletes, regardless of their actual ability, prosecutors said.CNN contributed to this report. 2604
