INDIANAPOLIS -- A guidance counselor at Roncalli High School says she was sad and hurt that school administrators and the archdiocese gave her the option to resign or dissolve her marriage after they learned that she was married to a woman. Shelly Fitzgerald says she was asked to meet with school president Joe Hollowell and Principal Chuck Weisenbach last Friday.At that meeting, Fitzgerald says she was shown a copy of her marriage certificate. Hollowell said someone turned it into him and that he then had to turn it into the archbishop."I was hurt, sad, I was hurt," said Fitzgerald. "I've been there 15 years. I've been a part of a community that loves each other. I was stunned. Fitzgerald says she was given four options: to resign, dissolve her marriage or, "stay kind of quiet and hope that it would, you know, stay quiet until the end of the year and keeping my job as long as possible if it stayed out of the media and then they would not renew my contract the following year. Or depending on how boisterous it became, they would have to move towards sooner termination.""I love my wife very much. I didn't have any intention to resign a job that I adore. For me to walk out was like saying I didn't want to be there anymore and that wasn't the case," said Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald says she's been quiet for the past 15 years and she wants to be honest with the people in her life that love her. "It really wasn't hiding, I'll tell you that. People knew. People I worked with knew. People I called friends and love, that wasn't secret from the school. There are tons of people that knew and loved me. INDIANAPOLIS -- Ninety minutes after Tonya Holtgrave dropped her dog, Titan, off at Barkefellers on the west side, the doggy daycare called to tell her that Titan appeared to be injured.Holtgrave said they told her that they weren't sure what happened, but she needed to take him to a veterinary hospital immediately."I was just shocked when they called me and said he was hurt, and it's kind of been a shock ever since," she said.According to medical records, Titan fractured his tibia in both legs."They let my dog get hurt," Holtgrave said "That's negligence on their part, not mine."She said the vets told her Titan will need an expensive surgery. She wants the company to help pay for it."I just can't afford that right now, ,000 for surgery," Holtgrave said. "I am already out over ,000 just in all of these vet bills and stuff, and his medicine."Barkefellers said they checked their surveillance cameras and did not see any point where the dog might have gotten injured under their care. Holtgrave said she had Titan's vet call the facility. The manager said they can't pay for anything unless they have proof that Titan was injured on their property."The other vet had already told him it was a traumatic injury, that he didn't walk in there with two broken legs," Holtgrave said.The owners of Barkefellers said they will help pay for the medical bills once they have their own vets review the records and X-rays themselves, and get the proof they need to make sure this injury happened there. 1518

In the midst of a global pandemic, there's a new challenge to millions of Americans’ health insurance. The Supreme Court will hear arguments Tuesday on the Affordable Care Act.“If the ACA is repealed, millions of people across the country will lose access to their health care, but not only that, millions of people who have preexisting conditions will lose protections, which were put in place through the ACA that allows them to not be discriminated against from insurance companies,” said Rosemary Enobakhare, Director of HealthCareVoter.org.Texas is arguing the ACA is unconstitutional since Congress got rid of the tax penalty it carried if you didn't have insurance.Even though the high court has a new conservative judge and majority, legal experts don't think the justices will strike down the entire law.Even advocates for the ACA admit it needs to be improved, but don't want to see vulnerable populations lose coverage in the meantime.“When all the dust settles, and everything clears, and it's time to get to work, we’ve got to make sure to remind people what they ran on and we’ve got make sure that we have people fighting for folks in their lives and making sure they're prioritize health care,” said Enobakhare.Healthcare Voter would like to see Medicaid expanded in all states. They also want lower costs for prescription drugs.“In the United States, people pay 0 to 0 a viable. Folks who have diabetes need multiple vials of insulin in order to be able to manage their condition and so people are paying thousands of dollars, monthly, and this is with insurance to be able to stay alive. That is unacceptable,” said Enobakhare.The Supreme Court will not issue a ruling on the ACA until next year. 1728
