SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people escaped uninjured after a sailboat crashed into an Ocean Beach jetty, before the vessel itself was crushed by high surf.The 25-foot long boat collided into the North Channel jetty in Ocean Beach with the two individuals on board, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Monica Mu?oz. San Diego Lifeguards used a personal water craft to reach the vessel and safely pull the two individuals after they were forced to jump from the boat. The boat was attempting to leave the jetty area when a large wave forced them to pull a U-turn. SAN DIEGO FORECAST: Wednesday's rains to strengthen heading into ThursdayWind caught the sails and instead sent the vessel back into the jetty, according to witnesses at the scene.Those two people were uninjured in the wreck though the sailboat was crushed by high surf and sunk within the channel's entrance, according to Mu?oz.The boat's owner is now responsible for making arrangements to tow the boat from the channel.RELATED: Where to get free sandbags to protect your home from floodingA storm system forecasted for San Diego County has brought high sets to local beaches Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With COVID-19 pandemic-related regulations in effect across California, San Diego County leaders are putting together a task force to make sure local businesses following proper guidelines.County Supervisor Greg Cox announced the county’s plan for a “Safe Reopening Compliance Team,” which will assist businesses as they navigate how to safely operate during the pandemic.“This is going to be the carrot approach, not the stick approach. But I emphasis we still have the stick and other tools available to us and we will use them if necessary,” Cox said.The team will also help with the businesses that don’t seem to be complying with the new rules.Though county leaders haven’t spelled out exactly what role this team will play in enforcing the rules, the county has already received many public complaints about these types of businesses.Erick Hudson, a head coach from CrossFit Humanity, said it’s frustrating to hear about these complaints as they try to adhere to the rules that everyone is being asked to follow.“If a business is just blatantly ignoring the rules, a lot of people congregating without those masks, without having to socially distance, then it’s like who knows how much longer this situation is going to last,” said Hudson.The county has not released a timeline as to when this team will hit the streets. 1354

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Video posted to Facebook Wednesday showing a violent encounter between a Pacific Beach worker and homeless man has already gained hundreds of shares and comments.You can see someone come out of B-Mo's Sandwich Shop on Garnet Avenue and push a table into a shirtless man's head, then begin throwing his belongings into the street. 10News reached out to the owner of B-Mo's but were told he wasn't available for an interview Thursday.But Pacific Beach locals who saw the video told 10News the video shows San Diego's homelessness issue has reached a boiling point locally."If you look at the video you can tell it's at the point of escalation," said Mike Bremer, who owns a nearby tattoo shop.Bremer says while he might not agree with how things played out, he understands how it could happen. "I don't condone using that kind of violence I'm here to support because something needs to be done," Bremer said.Bremer and other locals said they deal with issues related to the homeless on a near daily basis and it can make doing business difficult. Thursday, two San Diego Police officers arrived at B-Mo's, but wouldn't comment. A spokesperson for SDPD said officers were initially called out when the confrontation happened but the homeless man wasn't cooperative and the other man didn't want any further action taken. Police said Thursday in light of the video evidence they've now opened up a criminal investigation into the incident. It's unclear if anyone will be charged. 1502

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- While the visible reminders of local wildfires may be gone, San Diego fire officials say what’s left over can still cause a lot of problems especially as the region expects to get rain this weekend.After an intense wildfire happens, the burned vegetation and charred soil forms a water repellant layer that blocks water absorption -- which means the next time it rains, there’s potential for flooding.Cal Fire wants to remind residents to prepare before the rain arrives.Thomas Shoots, a spokesperson for Cal Fire, said, “Anyone near the Valley Fire needs to be prepared for any type of debris or mud flows. They need to have sandbags and the area around their home prepped so that everything looks OK.”In September, the county gave residents free supplies to make sandbags so people could begin their preps for the rainy season.County information on free sandbag availability can be found here.The City of San Diego is also offering sandbags for residents.
