Arizona’s economy is doing just fine without Nike. We don’t need to suck up to companies that consciously denigrate our nation’s history. 8/— Doug Ducey (@dougducey) 178

Boeing has developed a software patch and pilot training program to address issues with the Boeing 737 MAX identified in the October Lion Air crash, the Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday. The FAA and other airplane regulators worldwide grounded the 737 MAX a week ago following a crash in Ethiopia. The agency said data and physical evidence shows similarities between the Ethiopian Airlines crash and the Lion Air crash less than six months ago.On Wednesday, the FAA provided an incremental update on its fix to the plane, which it has previously said will be rolled out "no later than April 2019.""The FAA is aware that Boeing is developing a Service Bulletin that would specify the installation of new flight control computer operational program software," the FAA said in an international notice."Boeing has also developed flightcrew training related to this software," it said. "The FAA's ongoing review of this software installation and training is an agency priority, as will be the roll-out of any software, training, or other measures to operators of the 737 MAX."The FAA has previously said the updates will address the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, known as MCAS. Investigators are probing whether faulty data coming into that system drove the Lion Air plane into a steep dive that the pilots were unable to overcome. The FAA and others have said data shows similarities between the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines crashes."The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR) information have been downloaded from the units and are in possession of the Ethiopian authorities," the FAA said in the Wednesday notice.Earlier on Wednesday, the French authorities told CNN the so-called black boxes will be analyzed by Ethiopian investigators. 1804

ANGOLA, Ind. – China is the number one country for international adoption. But right now, more than 150 million people there are under a coronavirus lockdown, flights grounded, travel advisories in place. It has left thousands of orphan children and adoptive families in limbo. Last summer, Robin and Walt Huston decided they wanted to share their lake house home with a child in need.“We just decided to add to our family,” said Robin Huston. “We think we have enough to give to another child.”The Hustons are pre-approved to adopt and have been working with an international agency that specializes in placing children with hearing loss or deafness.Walt Huston’s parents and grandparents were deaf. “My first language was sign language,” said Walt. “And then I met Robin. She knew sign and then we both decided we wanted a deaf child.”The child they selected is 13-year-old Zhou Ji. Born hearing impaired, he’s waited his entire life for someone to choose him. “[They] showed us some pictures of him and our hearts just melted,” said Walt. “And we wanted him from that point on.”But the eruption of the coronavirus has brought dozens of adoptions like theirs to a crushing halt. Zhou Ji is living in an orphanage under lockdown in Hubei province, the epicenter of the Wuhan virus outbreak. “Yes. It’s very scary,” said the Hustons.Pamela Neail Thomas is the china program director for Hand-in-Hand International Adoptions and is handling the Hustons’ case. “The children in the orphanages are being kept inside the compounds and their caregivers are being asked to stay with them,” said Thomas. “So, no one is leaving.” Along with being paralyzed by the outbreak, the Hustons are also racing against time. “He is 13. He's going to be 14 in October,” said Robin. “So, he will be aging out.”If that happens, there is very little if any recourse.“If he gets to his 14th birthday he become ineligible for adoption under Chinese law,” explained Thomas. The Indiana couple says they remain hopeful the virus will be contained before it’s too late. “I just hope that this virus has subsided enough that we're able to travel and stay healthy and that he stays healthy.” 2174

As coronavirus has quickly spread across the world, so too has the use of face masks. During a pandemic, putting on a mask may be the first thing you think to do in order to protect yourself. But public health researchers have no concrete evidence yet that masks alone significantly reduce a healthy person’s chances of getting sick. And if healthy people buy and use up large quantities of masks, there won't be enough for sick people, who are mostly likely to spread the disease, or for frontline health workers, who more frequently come into contact with the COVID-19 virus as they care for the severely ill. Experts estimate health care systems in the US will need 3.5 billion masks -- quite a bit more than than the national stockpile of about 42 million. But if every person in the U.S. were to wear one mask each day, we'd need a supply nearing 10 billion for just one month. "The most important use of masks is for our health care workers," Dr. Tom Frieden, the president and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives and former head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tells Newsy. "That will protect them, so they're there for us. And it will protect other patients as well, preventing them from getting infected."The CDC only recommends that people who are sick and their caregivers wear masks. When masks are unavailable, a scarf or bandana can be used. But more importantly, Frieden urges sick people to just stay home. "If you're sick, don't go out. Don't expose others. Even if you're only mildly sick, your illness may kill somebody else." 1568

As President Donald Trump moves forward with plans to build additional physical barriers along the southern border, his administration will have to contend with a slew of lawsuits challenging the national emergency declaration allowing him, in part, to do so.So far, at least four lawsuits have been filed challenging the declaration. The argument at the core of each lawsuit is similar: Trump exceeded his authority and circumvented Congress in an attempt to achieve his signature campaign promise for an emergency that, plaintiffs argue, doesn't exist. Here's a rundown of the lawsuits:State of California et al. vs. Trump et al. Plaintiffs: 16 states, led by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. The lawsuit seeks a preliminary injunction to halt the President's declaration. The complaint accuses Trump of carrying out an "unconstitutional and unlawful scheme," and describes how states "stand to lose millions in federal funding" and could "cause damage to their economies."The complaint includes Trump's remark that he didn't need to declare the emergency.Attorneys general from Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Virginia joined California in the lawsuit. All states, except Maryland, are led by Democratic governors.Location: Northern District of California.Judge: Elizabeth D. Laporte, Clinton appointee.Status: Filed.Center for Biological Diversity et al. vs. Trump et al. Plaintiffs: The Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife and Animal Legal Defense Fund. The 1612
