Anyone who believes they have symptoms resembling the novel coronavirus (which are fever, coughing, and shortness of breath) is asked to contact their medical provider, who will help determine if they need to be tested."We have already identified and issued warning letters to companies found selling and promoting fraudulent items, and we expect additional such actions will be forthcoming," the FDA said.Anyone who believes they have found a vendor selling fake testing kits can report them to the FDA. 1570

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The City of San Diego will consider making a significant change to the way voting is done, best known as "ranked choice voting."It would allow voters to list up to four candidates in order of preference, rather than just cast a traditional ballot for one candidate."It's a very interesting system that hopefully decreases some of the negative campaigning that we ordinarily see," Councilmember Mark Kersey, who supports ranked choice, told 10News Friday.In the proposed version of ranked choice that San Diego is considering, the top four candidates in each primary race would advance to the general election, rather than the top two. In November, voters would then rank the candidates by preference. If one candidate has more than 50 percent of the vote on first count, that candidate would win. If no candidate reaches 50 percent, the last place finisher would be thrown out. That person's votes would then be reallocated according to the voters' second choice. The field would continue winnowing until a candidate tops 50 percent.UC San Diego political science professor Thad Kousser says ranked choice allows voters to feel like they are not wasting their vote on a long shot, and helps avoid the idea of voting for the lesser of two evils. "It allows voters to take a sincere vote without throwing away the weight that their vote would have," Kousser said.Kousser also says ranked choice helps keep races from getting as negative. "It could give candidates incentive to play nice with each other, to be less negative in their advertising beceause they would love to be second place on every voter's dance card," he added.Kersey says the City Council will consider placing ranked choice on the November ballot, with the goal of making the change in 2022. If the council elects not to put ranked choice on the ballot, supporters say they will launch a signature drive to get the measure on the ballot that way.Other cities in California have already adopted ranked choice, including San Francisco, Oakland, and Palm Desert. The concept is also gaining steam elsewhere in the country, with Maine moving to ranked choice for statewide elections."There's a reason why people are looking at doing it this way," Kersey said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City Attorney's Office has obtained gun violence restraining orders against 10 San Diegans they say "posed a serious danger to themselves and others."The orders require the gun owners to surrender or sell all their firearms and not to acquire or possess any firearms or ammunition for one year, which is the maximum length of time allowable by law."Our federal government is inexcusably ignoring the growing problem of gun violence in our schools and communities. The man was arrested with the gun in his vehicle.An 81-year-old man from Carmel Mountain who threatened to shoot his 75-year-old wife and a neighbor because he believed they were having an affair. His wife escaped the house, barefoot, by climbing a fence and running through cactus. His family reported him to be in the early stages of dementia.A 53-year-old Allied Gardens man with significant mental health issues who used a firecracker to damage a neighbor’s front door. Neighbors called police after hearing what they thought were gun shots coming from his apartment. Officers seized a bayonetted rifle and two illegal high-capacity magazines from his apartment.A 38-year-old Allied Gardens man who threatened to kill himself, his wife, and their young child if she left him. His wife had overheard him distraught and crying in the bathroom, and cocking his .40 caliber pistol.A 28-year-old Mission Valley man who grabbed a gun case and threatened suicide. When his exgirlfriend tried to call for help, he grabbed her by her hair, threw her on the ground, and pushed her head into a wall. Police seized two handguns, two rifles, and a shotgun.A 33-year-old Mid-City man who locked his wife in a car with him, threatening her with a loaded firearm. When the San Diego Police Department arrived on the scene and searched the car, they found a meth pipe along with two loaded firearms that did not belong to him. He later surrendered a Glock 9mm and a .380 handgun.A 35-year-old Allied Gardens man with a small arsenal and a history of domestic violence, whose wife suffered a serious laceration to her forehead and feared he might kill her. The man owned a 9mm pistol, a mosquito semi-automatic pistol, a Ruger .22, a Springfield .40 caliber pistol, a Ruger rifle, a Mossberg shotgun, and an unmarked handgun.A 40-year-old La Jolla man who told his fiancé by text message that he wanted to shoot her in the head, then visited his fiancé’s ex-boyfriend and threatened to kill him while holding a knife behind his back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation are looking for two women they say walked away from the Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program.The department says, while conducting a room search Thursday, staff discovered a cell phone in a room shared by Karen Flores, 26, and Gisselle Rivas, 20.A short while later, it was discovered that both women removed their ankle monitors and walked away from the facility.Flores is a Hispanic female, 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 168 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Authorities say she was serving more than two years at the facility for second-degree burglary and grand theft.Rivas is a Hispanic female, 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 148 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
