SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego family is pleading for their father back after they say officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement apprehended him on June 20. Their father is expected in court on July 18. Gilberto Mayorga's children say it's hard to imagine life separated from him. "He's been here's since he was 17, 16. All he knows is San Diego. All he knows being here," his daughter, Eugenia Mayorga said. They say their father met their mother and started their family. He was deported but quickly came back so he could help their mother, who was struggling to support their family. "As soon as he came back, I remember having a roof over our heads," his daughter Bridgette Rembao, said. "I feel like the only crime he made was to come back and financially support us." ICE painted a different picture of Mayorga. ICE officials say he had previously been removed from the country five times. He served 100 days in federal prison for illegally entering the country. They say he has two felony criminal convictions for drug offenses and was sentenced to more than than five months in jail. He was also convicted of two other misdemeanors. ICE officials released the following statement to 10News:“While no class of alien present in the country illegally is exempt from ICE enforcement efforts, ICE officers do prioritize individuals they seek to apprehend and remove including criminal aliens, especially those who have repeatedly ignored our nation’s immigration laws.” 1500

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- 64 veterans from WWII and Korean wars have departed San Diego early Friday morning on their “Tour of Honor” which takes them to various memorials in Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight San Diego program.It's a journey of a lifetime for many of the veterans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A dog walk in South Park turned frantic as a couple tries to fend off a bee attack that didn't end when they got inside their home.Grape Street, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Patricia Young, her husband, and two dogs were near Marlton drive, just about done with their walk, when one of the dogs started sniffing a bush."All of a sudden I felt a really sharp stabbing in my arm. Then I heard buzzing near my eye and swatted at it. That’s when my husband started to get stung," said Young.Young says she didn’t see a swarm but heard a constant, loud buzzing."My husband is swatting and his glasses fall of. I pick them up, and he’s getting attacked ... Take my mask off and swing it around my back, and I get stung on my back," said Young.Young says her husband picked up one of the dogs, and they scrambled to get home, about 2 blocks away."We’re kind of yelping and squealing and swatting, and then get home, and it's that sense of, 'We’re safe,'" said Young,Not so fast. Inside the home, she found a bee on one of the dogs, and then one in the bathroom."When I came out to the kitchen, the bees were congregating in the light in the kitchen," said Young.In the end, they killed about eight bees. Their nine-year-old Maltese mix had to be treated by a veterinarian for a possible sting. Both Young and her husband stung several times"It's a freaky, terrible thing to be chased by bees into your home," said Young.Jeff Lutz, the owner of Bee Best Bee Removal, says a two-block chase is unusual, adding that "hot temperature can make bees more active," as they bring in water to keep the hive cool.It’s unclear if the bees were Africanized bees, which would require a DNA test to determine.Lutz says bee removal calls are down significantly this year but attributes that to the impact of COVID-19. 1812

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former San Diego Unified School District student and football player is suing the district.The lawsuit filed by Jason Srouy alleges he was never informed of the potential financial and legal risks of participating and playing an organized sport if a lawsuit were to be filed alleging any negligent or other claims against the student-athlete.In 2018 Srouy and the school district were sued by a referee. The referee was injured during a 2015 game and claimed it was done on purpose. He alleged Srouy had a history of unsportsmanlike conduct known and encouraged by the coaching staff.At the time Srouy told 10News he was playing wide receiver during the game, tasked with blocking the opposing cornerback. During the block, he says the opposing player fell onto the back of the referee's legs, injuring the official.In a previous interview, Srouy said after learning of the lawsuit a school official led his family to believe the district would help him; however that was not the case. “It wasn’t on purpose, it was an accident, I didn’t mean to hurt anybody," said Srouy.Srouy’s attorney tells Team 10 he was eventually dropped from the lawsuit but not before racking incurring more than 5,000 in costs and fees.A spokesperson for the district says they can’t comment on pending litigation. 1323

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 26-year-old was hospitalized late Saturday night after being struck by an SUV while riding his motorcycle.Police say the man was crossing an intersection at 5th Avenue and Ash Street around 9:41 when 82-year-old Herbert Green ran a red light and hit the 26-year-old.The rider flew off the bike when police say he hit a parked car with his head. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers were able to catch up to and arrest Green several blocks away from the scene of the crash. 545
