(AP) — Volunteers in hard hats, respirators and yellow rain pants had been poking through ash and debris looking for human remains in the wake of a Northern California wildfire, but a downpour Friday turned the ash into a thick paste, making it more difficult to find telltale fragments of bone and forcing them to temporarily stop their work.Craig Covey, who leads a search team from Southern California's Orange County, said those looking through the devastation in Paradise and two nearby communities were not told to stop but that he chose to take a break until the rain clears.Heavy rain and strong winds were knocking over trees, raising the risk they could fall on searchers, he said."It's just not worth it — we're not saving lives right now, we're recovering lives," Covey said of the dangerous conditions.The nation's deadliest wildfire in the past century has killed at least 84 people, and more than 560 are still unaccounted for. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a person of interest after a mother and daughter were shot and killed at an Otay Mesa home Sunday morning.San Diego Police were called to the residence on the 4300 block of Ebersole Drive after receiving reports of shots fired around 8:30 a.m.When police arrived they found a 37-year-old woman in the front yard with a gunshot wound.Police then learned that another woman was injured inside the house. They found a 65-year-old woman, also suffering from gunshot wounds.Both of the women who were shot died from their injuries. Police believe that the person of interest in the case, Justice Love Peace, aka. Jeremiah Horton, took a 6-month-old boy from the home. Shortly after 3 p.m., police said they had safely located the 6-month-old boy, but were still searching for Horton.Horton is considered armed and dangerous.Police believe Horton is the infant's father, the 37-year-old woman is the infant's mother, and the 65-year-old woman is the 37-year-old's mother. PHOENIX— A man is accused of doing dozens of beer runs at Valley Circle K locations since late last year.Phoenix police report that on Aug. 15 they arrested 45-year-old Larry Pinkney for 60 thefts at two Circle K stores in south Phoenix. Police say from November 2017 until Aug. 15 of this year, Pinkney stole cases of Budweiser and Bud Light from Circle K. Nearly all of the thefts were from the store near 24th Street and Southern Avenue. Surveillance pictures and video allegedly show Pinkney taking the beer from the stores in each of the incidents. Police say during each incident he carried the beer in the same way and exited in the same direction. In many of the burglaries, he wore the same clothes. Upon his arrest, Pinkney reportedly told police that he sells the beer for a case. Circle K reports the total loss at over ,500.Pinkney has been charged with 60 counts of theft. 945

PHOENIX (AP) — A federal court in Maryland has ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program must be restored fully, meaning it must open up to new applicants for the first time in three years.The program helps immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children to legally work and protects them from deportation. Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump didn't properly end the program in 2017.Roughly 650,000 people are enrolled in DACA, but only those who were already in the program when it ended have been able to renew.The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said it is reviewing the ruling.The attorney general of California, Xavier Becerra, led the multistate coalition in the lawsuit that sought to restore DACA.After the court’s ruling, Becerra said, "From the Supreme Court down, the courts have made it clear: DACA stands, and now its doors are open to new Dreamers to apply.
