In the span of less than 24 hours, Delta strengthened from a tropical storm into a power category 4 hurricane with its sights set on the Yucatan Peninsula.Moments after reporting Delta had become a major hurricane Tuesday morning, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that the storm had strengthened further into category 4 status. According to a reading from a Hurricane Hunter aircraft, Delta has maximum sustained winds of 130 mph, as of Tuesday at 10 p.m. CT. The storm's top winds dropped slightly from 145 MPH.The NHC says Delta will bring "extremely dangerous storm surge" and other hurricane-like conditions to the Yucatan throughout the day Tuesday before briefly making landfall on Wednesday. The Yucatan Peninsula is home to many Mexican resort towns, including Cancún and Playa del Carmen. Belize, a coastal country on the southern part of the peninsula, may also feel effects from Delta. While the NHC notes that there is "large uncertainty in track and intensity forecasts," Delta is currently expected to make landfall on the Louisiana coastline as a hurricane late in the week. Current forecasts have Delta making landfall anywhere from western Louisiana to the western Florida panhandle on early Saturday morning.Louisiana has taken the brunt of the impact of the 2020 hurricane season. Hurricanes Marco and Laura have already made landfall in the state, causing inland flooding and significant damage along the coast. Hurricane Sally also did significant damage nearby Gulf Shores, Alabama, when it made landfall in September.Delta became the 25th named storm on Monday in what has been an extremely active 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. 1667

It's been a roller coaster year for amusement parks across the country, with crowds or long lines this year because of COVID-19. Most theme parks that were able to reopen did so with guests' safety in mind."This fall is a unique time for us as families are dealing with coming out of the pandemic and what can they do, and certainly it's not over. Everybody is still very concerned about health and safety and looking to the attractions industry is a great place," said Susan Storey, the Global Communications Director for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).Storey says most theme parks across the country are mandating masks and not allowing as many people into the parks."They’re very good at managing how many people can be in a line, to how many people would be in a restaurant," Storey said. "We’re experts at moving people around and being able to provide a safe, healthy, fun experience."Storey says most theme parks are outside on large properties, giving people the ability to spread out."Technology has come into play, too. You can buy your tickets online and show them with your phone. You can do mobile ordering with food, so you’re not standing in line. You can just order, go and pick it up," Storey said. "So, there’s a lot of things that the industry has immediately implemented and added to take their already safe and fun environment."Six Flags over Georgia has fully decorated for Halloween, hoping to encourage families to visit "HalloFest" this fall."Right now, we have reduced capacity, so we are operating at a far lower level at the park than you’d typically see, and that’s so we can ensure social distancing," said Divina Mims, the Communications Manager at Six Flags over Georgia and Whitewater.Six Flags is also conducting daily temperature checks on employees and guests and conducting contactless bag checks. Every other row on a ride is empty, allowing for social distancing even on roller coasters.Hershey Park in Pennsylvania is limiting capacity through an online reservation system."We've also added 300 hand sanitizers, and we have a variety of guest ambassadors in positions to help our guests with all those safety enhancements," said Quinn Bryner, Director of Public Relations for Hershey Entertainment and Resorts. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention discourages large gatherings where maintaining six feet of distance isn't possible, as that puts people at the highest risk for contracting COVID-19.According to the CDC's website, "The more people an individual interacts with at a gathering and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and COVID-19 spreading."However, Storey says, parks are doing everything they can to keep customers safe."We provide a lot of jobs, and we do a lot for our communities," Storey said. "We provide respite, we provide fun and help create great memories for our guests and visitors, and that's what’s critical in all that we do."Anyone planning a trip an amusement park should check the park's website prior to visiting to ensure that social distancing is possible. 3154

It's one of the most frightening new scams to hit in 2018: the porn blackmail scam, or "sextortion" scam. One woman was just targeted and is sharing her story so others don't end up horrified as she was, or worse, losing hundreds of dollars.Linda Wihl is one of the kindest, most clean-living women you'll ever meet. She teaches inner-city children to read through a nonprofit group she started called "Making Sense of Language Arts."  She has a wall full or honors and awards for helping so many children. So you can imagine her surprise when she received an email accusing her of watching porn."They were asking for money to keep quiet, or said they would show pictures of me performing. you know, sex acts." Wihl said.Frightening email says it has goods on youThe email claimed a malware program installed on her laptop caught her visiting porn sites and had a picture of her watching porn taken with her laptop's camera. Her first reaction?"It was bull, for one, because it's not something I do," she said. However, the emailer knew one of her passwords, so she was worried.Wihl's biggest fear wasn't that someone saw her doing something private. It was that a hacker had gotten into her computer, where he could have accessed all sorts of personal information."You don't know who has access and who can use your computer," she said.Fortunately, the security site Krebs on Security says this is just a scam that uses a password stolen from a data breach, possibly the 2012 LinkedIn breach.Wihl didn't send money; she knew the hackers didn't really have anything with which to embarrass her. If you're not quite as saintly as she is, however, you just might fall for it -- especially if you have ever looked at X-rated material on your computer. As always, delete your browser history and don't waste your money.____________________"Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. It seems the “chicken wars” between fast-food restaurants are heating up once again.Last week, McDonald’s introduced its new spicy chicken McNuggets, which will compete with Wendy’s spicy nuggets. Now, Shake Shack has entered the roost. The restaurant known for its burgers announced Tuesday that its Hot Chick’n will be back for a limited time starting Tuesday. The item has been on the menu twice before. Now it's back and “ready to throw down in the chicken sandwich category,” a representative for Shake Shack said. The spicy version of the restaurant’s Chick’n Shack sandwich is made with real chicken breast (no added hormones or antibiotics) that is slow-cooked in a creamy buttermilk marinade, hand-dipped into Shack-made batter, dredged through seasoned flour and crisp-fried. The chicken is then dusted with a guajillo and cayenne pepper blend, topped with Shack-made cherry-pepper slaw and pickles, all served on a potato bun.Hot Chick’n is also returning with brand new Hot Chick’n Bites, Hot Spicy Fries and Hot Spicy Cheese Fries, made with the same guajillo and cayenne pepper dusting. All four Hot Chick’n items are available in two spice levels, hot and extra hot, and will be at Shake Shack locations nationwide, some exclusions may apply. Guests who order Hot Chick’n through the Shack App or order.shakeshack.com can get access to a third spice level, fire."When developing our Hot Chick’n menu, featuring the Hot Chick’n sandwich and brand new Hot Chick’n Bites, Hot Spicy Fries and Hot Spicy Cheese Fries, we wanted to make sure we launched them in an elevated way, inspired by our deep culinary roots and emphasis on premium ingredients," said Mark Rosati, Culinary Director at Shake Shack. 1718

In the months since last November's election, the Merriam-Webster dictionary has been on overdrive. It's transformed itself into a cheeky, fact-checking machine. And in the process, it's struck social gold (more than half a million Twitter followers and counting). On Monday, the dictionary released more than 250 new words and definitions. True to its fresh image, the list includes several words that, in this new political and social climate, have taken on a different meaning.Consider "troll."Originally, it was a noun used to describe a dwarf or giant in Scandinavian folklore. The new definition that Merriam-Webster added is a verb: "to antagonize (others) online by deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content."How about "dog whistle?"Once upon a time, it was what it said: a whistle for dogs inaudible to humans. Now, it's earned a political twist: It's "an expression or statement that has a secondary meaning intended to be understood only by a particular group of people."Other additions this go-round include "alt-right," "concealed carry" and "open carry.""With politics seeming to be ever-prominent in the public's mind, terms like alt-right and dog whistle are not surprising additions," Merriam-Webster said in a statement on its website. The dictionary usually releases its list of new words every few months. When the last list came out in February, the 1,000+ new words included "SCOTUS," "FLOTUS," and "truther." 1491
