The chicken sandwich war is over. The latest fast food feud is all about mac and cheese.Just weeks after Chick-fil-A rolled out its new mac and cheese side, KFC is debuting a new mac and cheese of its own -- but not as a side dish.KFC is topping its classic mac and cheese side dish with its popcorn chicken to make a bowl of, well, cheesy chicken. Those familiar with KFC's offerings know the mac and cheese bowl is a riff off their original Famous Bowls. Rather than mashed potatoes and gravy, they're serving regular and Nashville hot sauce-coated popcorn chicken over mac and cheese.Earlier this week, Popeyes' announcement of a new chicken sandwich ignited the Great Chicken Sandwich War, which was really just fast food brands arguing on Twitter over who has the best sandwich. KFC was oddly quiet during the brawl, and this announcement may explain why.KFC isn't the only fast food chain turning its attention to mac and cheese. The mac and cheese side dish is Chick-fil-A's first new permanent side on the menu since 2017. Boston Market already chimed in with their thoughts on the dish, implying theirs is superior.KFC's mac and cheese bowls will be available on August 26. The dishes will join the chain's Fill Up menu. 1244

Technology used at South Florida grocery chain is taking online grocery shopping to the next level. The sound of plastic bins flying around on a conveyor belt is music to Javier Herran's ears. “I refer to it as a symphony of chaos,” Herran says. The well-oiled machine does all the grocery shopping for you. “It’s basically a giant vending machine,” Herran describes. Except this vending machine can hold over 100,000 items for Sedano's supermarkets’ new online ordering platform. “This is the first automated micro-fulfillment center in the world,” explains Curt Avalon with Takeoff Technology, the company that developed the robotic system. Instead of an employee walking through a store to manually gather the items in an online order, the machine does all the work. It travels through a system of conveyors and elevators, bringing the shelves to the employees. "So we can pick an item in about three seconds, where if you're shopping on the sales floor, its 60 to 90 seconds an item,” Avalon says. That efficiency is what sold Herran, who is Sedano's marketing director. "We can get an order done in 10 minutes or less versus an hour or hour and a half shopping on the sales floor," Avalon says. Finished orders are taken to an online pickup area in Sedano’s various stores for customer’s to pick up. The robot isn’t replacing human jobs. Sedano's says it’s actually adding jobs, since the warehouse must be manned. 1433
The International Air Transport Association says the virus outbreak that began in China could cost airlines as much as 3 billion in lost revenue due to the collapse of air travel. Representatives of the airline industry group said Thursday after a working meeting in Singapore that the industry urgently needs help from governments in waiving some requirements and fees to alleviate the burden on struggling carriers. An earlier estimate just two weeks ago put the potential cost of the downturn in travel at less than billion. The group’s estimate reflects a scenario involving a 19% loss in revenues with extensive spread of the virus in markets that now have 10 or more confirmed cases. That reflects countries accounting for 80% of airline revenues. The biggest losses would be in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, which has by far the most cases of the virus. “This is a very serious cash flow shock,” said Brian Pearce, the IATA’s chief economist. “We are seeing this serious decline in bookings and revenues outside the Asia-Pacific now that it (the virus) has spread more widely.”The IATA officials said the consensus of experts was that air travel remains relatively safe and that there are no known cases of passengers spreading the virus while on aircraft. 1294
The list of places intended for sporting events, entertainment, and other everyday activities, that are instead being used as temporary hospitals just got longer. On Tuesday, work began to convert the indoor tennis center at the Billie Jean King U.S. Open facility into a 350-bed temporary hospital. It joins a group of nine locations in or near New York City being converted into temporary hospitals. All but one of the temporary facilities are intended to handle non-coronavirus patients. However, doctors are fast learning that there may be no such thing."That was one of the initial most surprising things for us," said Dr. Eric Wei, NYC Health + Hospitals' chief quality officer. "People who got hit by cars or were beat up," Dr. Wei continued, "had pneumonia that's consistent for COVID-19."It's why the city is now instructing its medical personnel to assume that all patients have coronavirus. The temporary facilities are part of a constellation of hospitals in the city and its suburbs where patients can be moved and treated, depending on their condition. More than 170 hospitals and temporary hospitals are part of the network, and on Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised that a central command center would be operational by Tuesday to coordinate them all. "It is up and running," said Deanne Criswell, the city's emergency management commissioner at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon. "It's located at the Javits Center."Criswell added that, for now, the command center is only coordinating between two locations, the U.S.N.S. Comfort hospital ship, and the temporary hospital at the Jacob Javits Center. The full center is not expected to be fully operational until next week. 1705
