CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) - A border watch group says there are glaring holes along the border that can be plugged with the help of troops.The Department of Defense sent thousands of troops across the border to areas like the San Ysidro Port of Entry. “I don’t know all the intelligence, but it seems like (the troops) are all in the areas where the fence is pretty secure,” said Dan Russell with the Minutemen. The Minutemen is a citizen’s group dedicated to watching the border for illegal crossings. If they see any, they report them to border patrol. “Maybe they’re expecting thousands to show up in Tijuana or Tecate, but if they’re there in large numbers all they have to do is get on a bus, take the highway, drive an hour, and come over a wide open border,” Russell said.Russell says his group volunteers to watch the mile of the border just southwest of Campo. In that mile stretch, there are about five gaps along the border wall.“About every quarter mile, you’d want some eyes on the border,” he said. 1045

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A gunman opened fire on two New Jersey police officers while they were sitting in their vehicle at a red light Tuesday night, wounding them in what authorities are calling an ambush attack.At least one suspect opened fire on the plainclothes detectives in Camden, which is located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, said Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson."The information we have thus far is that they were essentially ambushed," Thomson told reporters at a late night news conference. "A male walked up and began opening fire. We have anywhere between 10 and 25 rounds that were fired at the officers."One of the detectives was able to return fire, Thomson said, but it was not immediately clear if anyone else was shot. Thomson said his department was in communication with hospitals in the region.The detectives were taken to an area hospital and are expected to survive."At this point in time our officers have non-life-threatening injuries but not for the grace of God quite frankly," Thomson said. "The amount of rounds that were fired at close range and particularly through the windshield."Police continue to search for the suspect or suspects involved in the "unprovoked" attack."Maybe they did know they were police officers and that's the reason why they did it. Maybe they thought they were somebody else. They don't, however, love actual cars like hatchbacks and sedans --as Ford has learned.Ford said on Wednesday the only passenger car models it plans to keep on the market in North America will be the Mustang and the upcoming Ford Focus Active, a crossover-like hatchback that's slated to debut in 2019.That means the Fiesta, Taurus, Fusion and the regular Focus will disappear in the United States and Canada.Ford will, however, continue to offer its full gamut of trucks, SUVs and crossovers.By 2020, "almost 90 percent of the Ford portfolio in North America will be trucks, utilities and commercial vehicles," the press release says. CAMPO (CNS) - At least one person was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening on Route 94 in Campo, according to the California Highway Patrol.The crash took place on Route 94 -- Campo Road -- at the intersection with Sheridan Road about 7 p.m., the CHP reported.The person's name was withheld pending family notification. There's no word yet on the gender or age of the victim. No information on other injuries was immediately available.At least one dog was also injured in the crash, the CHP said. Three others were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.Campo Road was temporarily closed at 9:55 p.m. for the crash and death investigation. The roadway was reopened about 11:05 p.m., the CHP said.Campo is a small town in the southeastern portion of San Diego County. 799
