BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)Central Committee Saturday congratulated the Kuomintang (KMT) plenary congress, expecting deepening trust, more exchanges and common understanding across the Taiwan Strait.     The KMT held its 18th plenary congress Saturday morning, at which Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou officially assumed the position of KMT chairman.     In a statement to the KMT Central Committee and Ma Ying-jeou, the CPC Central Committee expected the two parties to stick to the"common wish for peaceful cross-Strait development".     With the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence" as the political foundation, the two parties should deepen mutual trust, increase exchanges and expand common understanding, the statement said.     In response to the CPC statement, the KMT Central Committee said in a reply that the two parties have reached a common understanding to promote cross-Strait peaceful development.     The KMT expected to work with the CPC for improving trust and mutual benefits, in a bid to improve the welfare of people on both sides, the statement said.     Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, congratulated Lien Chan for maintaining the position of KMT honorary chairman and Wu Poh-hsiung for taking the position of KMT honorary chairman respectively.     The "common wish for peaceful cross-Strait development," reached by the two parties during Lien's 2005 visit to the mainland, has set a clear direction and laid the foundation for cross-Strait relations, Hu said in a statement to Lien.     "We sincerely expect Mr. Lien to continue working for the peaceful development across the Strait," he said.     In response to Hu's congratulation, Lien said in a statement that since the two sides resumed systematic talks based on the 1992 Consensus, the peace and stability across the Strait has been greatly enhanced and people's welfare improved.     "We should work even harder to strengthen the five-point common wishes," Lien said.     As the KMT chairman in the past two years, Wu had made great contribution to improving cross-Strait relations, Hu said in a statement to Wu.     Last year and this May, Wu visited the mainland twice for the KMT-CPC talks, which laid solid foundations for favorable exchanges between the two sides, he said. "We expected Mr. Wu to make new contributions to cross-Strait peaceful development."     In a reply to Hu, Wu said in the past four years, the two parties pushed forward their cooperation step by step and won support from the people and the international society.     "The two parties should work together for peace and development with sincerity and goodwill," he said.     As honorary chairmen, Lien and Wu will assist Ma on cross-Strait affairs and regional exchanges.

BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese farmers would see their income continue to rise this year, Vice Minister of Agriculture Chen Xiaohua said at a press conference Saturday.     "As China's economy is recovering, there are more and more positive factors supporting the increase of farmers' income," said Chen.     Farmers' per capita cash income in the first half of this year reached 2,733 yuan (400 U.S. dollars), up 8.1 percent year on year. But the increase rate was 2.2 percentage points slower than that in the same period last year, according to Chen.     "The growth is remarkable and the statistics are pleasing. However, China is still short of a long-term mechanism for increasing farmers' income and efforts need to be made to increase the channels for farmers to earn more money," said Chen.     In the past, farmers' income was mainly driven up by increased grain production or raised prices. "Now, we should push forward agricultural industrialization to let market guide grain planting and agricultural production," Chen said.     Chen also stressed the importance of creating more jobs for surplus rural laborers in a bid to increase their salary income.     The salary income mainly comes from the earnings from working in local or urban enterprises.     The economic crisis reduced the number of Chinese migrant workers, with the current number standing around 225 million. In the second quarter this year, this number increased 2.6 percent from the first.     Chen also said the government will increase fiscal support for farmers in subsidizing their purchase of seed, diesel, fertilizer and other production materials.     The central government always gives priority to increasing farmers' income, he said.     "Local authorities should make every effort to keep increasing farmers' income to shore up rural development and to ensure stable and rapid economic development," Chinese Vice Primer Hui Liangyu said at a rural work conference held in China's eastern city of Hangzhou from Thursday to Friday.

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the country's top aircraft manufacturer, said Sunday total sales revenue in its auto business would reach 30 billion yuan (about 4.39 billion U.S. dollars) by 2017.     Geng Ruguang, deputy general manager of AVIC, said making big passenger vehicles has become the the corporations's guiding plan for development in its auto business.     Geng revealed the figure at a ceremony marking AVIC and its partner Volvol's new product Silver 900 series going into production line.     The series is a new type of big and luxurious passenger vehicles, 12 meters long, which could be used for road transportation, tourist reception, and military equipment.     The Silver 900 series was developed by Xi'an Silver Bus Corporation, a joint venture established in 1994 by AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry Co. ltd, and the Swedish bus and truck maker Volvo company.     The Xi'an Silver Bus Corporation expects to produce annually 4,000 vehicles by 2014. URUMQI, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The 9th China Xinjiang International Agricultural Fair opened in the northwestern city of Urumqi Wednesday, attracting 110,000 business people from around the world.     Representatives with 987 companies from 15 countries and regions have arrived to attend the three-day event, which features exhibitions of fertilizers, pesticides and seeds, the organizers said in a press release.     It would be the largest fair compared with the previous eight sessions in terms of its visitors and scope, the organizers said.     "The fair is held against the backdrop of global financial crisis and the July 5 riot," the press release said. "The organizers will arrange activities to promote Xinjiang's agricultural products that have not been selling well due to the aftermath of the riot."     The riot in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has left 197 people dead, mostly innocent civilians, and more than 1,600 others injured.     But business people still hope to cash in on the vast market opportunities of Xinjiang, which takes up a sixth of Chinese territory, as Urumqi is gradually recovering from the violence.     "Our company entered the Xinjiang market in 2005 selling fertilizers and has won a wide recognition of local farmers," said Gu Rongbao, manager of the Jinlaifu Chemicals Import and Export Co. Ltd. from eastern Shandong Province. "We have confidence in the future development in Xinjiang."     The annual fair is jointly organized by the regional government's departments of agriculture, animal husbandry among others.
