Colin Kaepernick is one of the faces of GQ's December issue. The magazine named the former 49ers quarterback its "Citizen of the Year" for starting the protest that became a movement in the NFL."He's been vilified by millions and locked out of the NFL -- all because he took a knee to protest police brutality," GQ wrote in a news release about the cover. "Colin Kaepernick's determined stand puts him in rare company in sports history: Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson -- athletes who risked everything to make a difference."Kaepernick first knelt during the National Anthem at a preseason game last year to protest mistreatment of black Americans, particularly by police. The protests grew this year to dozens of other players and to other sports, and President Trump called for the firing of any protesters.Related: Papa John's says NFL protests are hurting salesKaepernick has been on the cover of GQ before, but for his athletic skill. Now he's on the cover because he's not playing."And it's not because he's hurt, or because he's broken any rules, or because he's not good enough," GQ said. "Approximately 90 men are currently employed as quarterbacks in the NFL, as either starters or reserves, and Colin Kaepernick is better -- indisputably, undeniably, flat-out better -- than at least 70 of them."Kaepernick is not interviewed for the issue but appears in a photo spread. GQ said he agreed to participate because he wanted to "reclaim the narrative of his protest, which has been hijacked by a president eager to make this moment about himself."Instead, Kaepernick worked with the magazine to select 10 people, including filmmaker Ava DuVernay and rapper J. Cole, to speak on his behalf."I see what he's done as art. I believe that art is seeing the world that doesn't exist," DuVernay said in the article. "I think some folks see his protests, his resistance, as not his work. Not intentional. Not strategic. Not as progressive action. As if this was just a moment that he got caught up in. This was work. This is work that he's doing."Kaepernick said on Twitter that he was "honored to be recognized."The-CNN-Wire 2130

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - Caltrans has begun installing spikes along the Coronado Bridge, designed to deter suicide jumpers. “It’s more of a psychological deterrent than anything else,” says Rhonda Haiston, the founder of the Coronado San Diego Bridge Collaborative for Suicide Prevention. Her group has campaigned to get barriers installed on the bridge. The four-inch spikes may not serve as a physical barrier, but they may slow people down she says. “If we can just give them a little extra effort they have to go through, we can stop them, talk to them,” says Haiston. Caltrans said the project had an estimated cost of 0,000 to 0,000. The spikes will be placed along both sides of the bridge across the 2.1 mile span. The project will take several nights, with lane closures beginning at 8 p.m.Meanwhile, Caltrans says it is still researching other long term solutions that could consist of fences, heightened barriers, glass panels or nets. But so far, nothing has been officially chosen and no funding sources have be secured. 1047

Crazy Horse III strip club is preparing for the arrival of their new neighbors, the Las Vegas Raiders, by introducing a daily "Hard Hat Happy Hour" from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting Wednesday, Nov. 8.The promotion will help the Raiders stadium’s construction crew unwind from long days of work by offering a complimentary drink each hour of the daily special. All it will take is for workers to present their work card or pay stub upon arrival.Oh, did we forget to mention that they will be granted free entry to the club as well?Crazy Horse III is just minutes away from the future site of Raiders stadium, which means workers, fans and players should expect a lot more of these specials to be announced as 2020 draws near.  735

COLLEGE EAST (CNS) - A 19-year-old man who was trying to sell one vehicle in the College East neighborhood ended up having another one stolen. The victim was trying to show a car, in the 5100 block of East Falls View Drive, to two men and a female suspect around 4 p.m. Saturday, but it wouldn't start. So he got his red 2007 Honda Civic, in order to give the for-sale car a boost. He left the keys in the Civic, and one of the supposed prospective buyers jumped into the driver's seat and started pulling away. The teenage victim tried to prevent the theft-in-progress by standing in front of his Honda.``The suspect pointed a black gun at the victim causing him to move out of the way and let the suspect take the car,'' Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department said. The female suspect followed the Civic in a gray BMW, Heims said. Police advise that the Civic has California plates that read 6AWX155.Investigators say the man who pointed the gun was a Black man with a thin build, who stands about 5 feet 9' inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds, has short dreadlocks and a piercing under his eye.The suspects were last seen heading westbound on Montezuma Road.Anyone with information is encouraged to call San Diego Police Robbery Detectives at 619-531-2299 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1314
