CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — Police say they were tasked with breaking up a crowd of 50 to 100 beachgoers having a large party on Friday amid a ban on gatherings in the county due to the pandemic.Carlsbad Police say the large crowd of mostly young people was having a large party and drinking near the Rue Des Chateaux beach access point on North Ocean St. at about 6 p.m.Police said when they arrived, the crowd voluntarily dispersed and no fines were given.A witness who sent ABC 10News a photo of the scene said it's not the first time this has happened. The witness said that large gatherings and parties in their neighborhood and at the beach have become a daily occurrence. The county's public health order bans gatherings of any size involving individuals who are not from the same household. 804

(KGTV) - A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon in the hills east of Burbank.Burbank firefighters and police officers closed roads near Sunset Canyon Drive and Harvard Road about 2 p.m.The location of the fire is above a residential neighborhood. Crews are evacuating hikers in the area.There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.The flames are burning near the site of the La Tuna Fire, which burned more than 7,000 acres and five homes in September 2017.10News is monitoring breaking developments.  545

CHICAGO — Brown paper covered the windows of Ed Burke's office at Chicago City Hall on Thursday after federal agents showed up there.Burke, who is the City Council Finance Committee chairman in Chicago, once served as President Donald Trump's property tax attorney, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.Klafter & Burke, his firm, has often sought to reduce the property taxes Trump Tower and other commercial properties have to pay.The visit from federal agents was unannounced, and it has not been said why they might be there. One COVID-19 testing rolling out in the fall looks to achieve all three and maybe even one day mail the tests straight to your home.“Involves just a nasal swab so not a nasopharyngeal swab, just around the rim of the inside of the nose rather than tickling the brain,” said Dr. Joseph Petrosino.The test costs and lets you know if you’ve got the coronavirus within 15 minutes.So far it’s reporting an accuracy rate in clinical labs of 97%.Dr. Petrosino, a molecular virologist with Baylor College of Medicine, took an independent look at the Binax Now ABBOT Rapid test rolling out in October.He says they’re reliable, easy to use, and less vulnerable to supply chain interruptions.“The test is just made out of cardboard and paper, it doesn’t rely on a lot of supply chain plastics or other needs that could potentially hold things up,” said Dr. Petrosino.However, antigen tests like these have been found to produce more false negatives than lab-based tests.Dr. Petrosino says the key is the affordability that would allow large numbers of people at schools and businesses to get tested more frequently, isolating potential outbreaks.“What’ll happen is you’ll have a band that appears if you’re positive as well as a band that relates to whether or not the test worked itself,” said Dr. Petrosino.There’s also a free app that works in conjunction with the test.It allows people to display their results in places where negative tests may eventually be needed for entry, such as schools, workplaces, or large events.Last week, President Donald Trump said the federal government will buy 150 million of the tests to distribute across the country.Fifty million are expected to be available to purchase in October, but folks interested will need to get them at a medical clinic, at least for now.“Currently, you can’t get this test directly, but in the future, you may be able to,” said Dr. Petrosino.This story was first published by Cameron Polom at KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona. 2015

(KGTV) – It opened with much fanfare back in September, but after a two week period of cancellations February, Carlsbad-based airline, Cal Jet was still dealing with setbacks in early March.“I can’t say that it didn’t [suffer],” said Cal Jet’s President, George Wozniak of their reputation.On Friday, he stood on the tarmac at McClellan-Palomar Airport, personally apologizing to travelers boarding a plane at 4:15 p.m. that had been originally scheduled to leave at 9 a.m.Wozniak said the passengers had been notified of the delay earlier in the day. The plane had experienced mechanical problems the night before and had to fly to Arizona last night for repairs.The delays come after the airline canceled nearly two weeks of flights, beginning just before President’s Day weekend.Wozniak said the plane they use, which is owned by Elite Air, had also been booked by NCAA basketball teams. “It was either a crew or aircraft scheduling problem, where if they had one pilot get ill and not show up, it could throw the whole thing off,” described Wozniak.They could theoretically still use it, but rather than risk more abrupt cancellations, he decided to clear the schedule until they could get the plane back full time.“It was not an easy decision to make,” said Wozniak.Cal Jet’s Yelp page says why.
