SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- America’s Freedom Bell, which has been traveling across the country for years, officially has a permanent home in San Diego.Wednesday, the bell was unveiled at its new home at the Veterans Museum in Balboa Park. Before that, it was kept in a storage facility in between travels.Richard Rovsek, a Rancho Santa Fe resident and founder of the Spirit of Liberty Foundation, drew up a design for the bell on a napkin during a meal. 72 hours later he learned it would become a reality.Rovsek created the bell to give Americans a chance to ring it and honor the men and women who served our nation. Five million Americans have rung the bell so far.“It’s closure for families,” said Rovesek.The bell was cast on June 6, 2013 with full military honors on the 69th anniversary of D-Day. It has traveled to Independence Hall, Arlington Cemetery, Pearl Harbor, Normandy Beach and more. It will continue to travel occasionally, but will forever call San Diego home. Measure E also includes promises for new housing, retail, an entertainment complex, and San Diego River park."That's what people care about," Stone told 10News in an interview the day before the election. "They want to know they're getting fair value, that something's going to happen, and that we're going to live up to the commitments we're making. And we are."Should Measure G win, the city would sell the land to the CSU system with plans for a new west campus for San Diego State University. Churches around the county were forced to make changes to their services, but some embrace the new scenery.Sunday morning mass was held outdoors for parishioners at Saint Agnes Catholic Church. Members brought their beach chairs to worship in the church’s parking lot.“I love being able to see people here, gathered together, and worship together,” says Father Bill Marquis.The changes came after the governor’s announcement to stop indoor activities due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the state. San Diego county is one a few dozen on the state’s watchlist.Saint Agnes Catholic Church says it is still offering virtual services, but it was the members who requested to have the “beach chair mass” on Sunday morning.“Parishioners asked me if we were going to have mass on Sunday, I said we were going to live stream it,” says Father Marquis. “She says we would still like to have an outdoor mass on Sunday, if possible. I said why, and she said because we want to receive communion.
