SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University's Interfraternity Council voted this week to ban social gatherings on campus this fall.The Thursday night vote bans all IFC social events and requires that all IFC recruitment events be held virtually to curb the spread of COVID-19. IFC's social moratorium also prevents fraternities from hosting any formal or informal events at chapter facilities or in satellite houses."The fact of the matter is that COVID-19 is currently a very real concern in our SDSU community," Lee Abed, IFC president, said. “Because of this, we would like to ensure that our community sees COVID-19 have as little of an impact as possible. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to halt all social events effective immediately.”The ban only applies to IFC members and does not affect College Panhellenic Association, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, or the United Sorority and Fraternity Council. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several people were hospitalized after they reportedly fell ill at a Sorrento Valley pharmaceutical company.San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to 6769 Mesa Ridge just before 2 p.m. Tuesday to reports that a 60-year-old man was passed out outside the business, Inovio Pharmaceuticals.Bystanders reportedly began CPR and used a defibrillator on the man.Crews say that additional people were transported after falling ill. In all, two people transported themselves to Scripps Memorial Hospital while two others were transported by emergency crews.Their conditions are not known at this time.SDFD said they believe the victims became sick after eating food brought in by an employee.  727

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego's flu season has hit a record high.More than 20,000 lab-confirmed cases have been reported this season in San Diego, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several students fighting over a BB gun at a Logan Heights middle school accidentally shot a fellow classmate Tuesday. The incident began when a boy told a fellow student he brought a BB gun to Memorial Preparatory for Scholars and Athletes. The two boys began fighting when the student told his classmate he didn't want to show him the BB gun. During the fight, police say the BB gun went off, shooting a 12-year-old girl in the temple. The student was treated at the school but didn't need to be taken to the hospital. The girl reportedly had a large welt on her head from the incident. At this time, the school hasn't said whether or not they'll be taking disciplinary action against the students.  759
