MEXICO CITY (AP) — A powerful earthquake centered near the Mexican resort town of Huatulco has killed at least two people, officials said Tuesday.The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a magnitude of 7.4 and was centered along the Pacific coast of Oaxaca state. It hit at 11:29 a.m. ET at a depth of 16 miles and the epicenter was about 7 miles south-southwest of Santa Maria Zapotitlan, USGS says.Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, said one person was killed and another injured in a building collapse in Huatulco. Otherwise he said reports were of minor damage such as broken windows and collapsed walls. Oaxaca state's governor reported a second death. The quake caused buildings in Mexico City to sway and sent thousands of residents into the city’s streets Tuesday. Seismic alarms sounded mid-morning with enough warning for residents to exit buildings.Helicopters flew over downtown Mexico City and police patrols sounded their sirens. 970
MICHIGAN — Six Detroit-area doctors were charged with fraudulent health care billing and unlawful prescribing of opioids, according to a federal indictment.The defendants, identified as Rajendra Bothra, Eric Backos, Gainu Edu, David Lewis, Christopher Russo and Ronald Kufner, each played different roles at different times, the indictment said. Over the course of the conspiracy, the defendants allegedly submitted claims for more than 2.5 million to Medicare, 2.6 million to Medicaid and .2 million to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan for services and equipment that was medically unnecessary, not eligible for reimbursement and/or not provided as represented.According to the indictment, the defendants issued more than 13,217,987 dosage units of Schedule II opioids, including Oxycontin, Percocet and Vicodin.The scheme, beginning in January 2013, was operated at three clinics: The Pain Center located in Eastpointe and Warren and the Interventional Pain Center in Warren. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville police officers who fatally shot Breonna Taylor while serving a warrant were told she should be home alone. Officers were told the main target of a large-scale narcotics investigation was elsewhere.Taylor was shot eight times after officers used a battering ram to knock down her door on March 13. Sgt. Johnathan Mattingly spoke to internal investigators about two weeks after the raid. News outlets obtained the interview with Mattingly on Thursday. Mattingly says officers were told Taylor's apartment was a "soft target" and Taylor "should be there alone." Taylor's boyfriend was actually there and shot Mattingly in the leg. 670
