ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested in Santa Ana Monday in the murder of an Escondido man whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car parked in Anaheim. Orange County authorities held a news conference Wednesday announcing the arrest of Antonio Silva Lopez, 27. As SWAT teams raided the home, they discovered another man inside who had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom, KABC reports. Lopez has been charged with murder along with a felony count of kidnapping for ransom-extortion or to commit robbery or a sex crime, court records show. RELATED: Body found in trunk of abandoned car in Anaheim identified as Escondido manAuthorities also discovered roughly two kilograms of fentanyl along with multiple firearms. Lopez was sought in the death of 34-year-old Adrian Darren Bonar. Bonar’s body was discovered October 17 when an abandoned car was being prepared to be towed from Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim. Upon opening the trunk, officers saw something wrapped in tarp inside that “was a similar size and shape of a human body,” police said.Bonar, according to police, was “known to frequent motels in North San Diego County and Los Angeles County.”Friends said Bonar served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq, City News Service reports. 1277

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Late U.S. Senator John McCain will be laid to rest at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis.A private memorial service will first be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel. A private burial will then follow.Leading up to his burial, McCain's body will depart his home state of Arizona on Thursday, headed for Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where he will be received with ceremony by Armed Forces Body Bearers.On Friday McCain will lie in state at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. Following an 11 a.m. formal ceremony inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, the public will be permitted to pay their respects. An employee of a Virginia Publix grocery store who is deaf and lacks peripheral vision claimed she was assaulted by a customer after the employee said she could not hear the woman, WRIC-TV reported. Liberty Gratz was reportedly stocking a shelf when a woman trying to get Gratz's attention punched her from behind. The punch got Gratz's attention, and Gratz was able to point the woman in the right direction, but the incident left Gratz stunned. "She doesn't have that peripheral vision, so she's really focused on her work," Gratz's mom Jeanette Gratx told WRIC. "She doesn't always notice the people beside her."Liberty Gratz later had store management review video footage, but managers were unable to make out the woman. "She could still feel it when I picked her up from work," Jeanette Gratz told WRIC. "How would you feel if you were working and someone just came up behind you and decided to punch you?"Liberty Gratz told WRIC she wishes she could talk to the woman about being kind to people, whether they have a disability or not.  1110

As a variant strain of the coronavirus spreads through the United Kingdom, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said in an interview on ABC News on Tuesday that it’s possible the variant is in the US."That's certainly possible I mean, when you have this amount of spread within a place like the UK, that you really need to assume that it's here already, and certainly is not the dominant strain, but I would not be surprised at all if it is already here," said Fauci on ABC News.The variant strain has fueled lockdowns and fears in the UK. It also has prompted much of the world to cut off travel to the UK. Health officials fear that the variant strain spreads more easily.The United States has not cut travel between the two countries. Fauci does not expect that to be necessary.“That's not that's not really in the cards right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the requirement of testing is something that is being actively considered right now," Fauci said.The CDC reminded the public that viruses often mutate. The CDC added that it’s investigating why this version differs from the disease caused by other versions that are currently circulating.As travel remains permitted between the two nations, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized officials for not cutting off travel. Cuomo did note that several airlines began testing passengers arriving in New York from the UK for the virus."Right now, this variant in the U.K. is getting on a plane and flying to JFK. Right now today,” Cuomo said. “One-hundred twenty countries require a test. We don't. Other European countries have done a ban. We haven't. And today that variant is getting on a plane and landing at JFK. How many times in life do you have to make the same mistake before you learn. Be one of the 120 countries that requires a test before you get on a plane to come to the U.S. This is the mistake we made."The United Kingdom has implemented some of its strongest lockdowns since the onset of the pandemic in recent days.
