XI'AN, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 100 children were sickened by food poisoning Monday noon at a kindergarten in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.The accident occurred at Zhaocun Beibeile Kindergarten at Weiyang District of the provincial capital Xi'an City, where the children suffered from nausea and diarrhea after lunch, said a spokesman from the Weiyang District Government.The sickened children were rushed to five local hospitals for treatment, and their conditions were reported as not life threatening, the spokesman said.An initial inspection showed that their sickness was caused by nitrite intoxication, and the exact cause is under investigation.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Bud Tribble, Apple's vice president of software technology, will testify at the Congressional hearings on mobile privacy next week, according to the witness list released on Friday.Tribble will represent Apple at the hearings of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law. He is considered as the right-hand man of Apple CEO Steve Jobs and has been with Jobs since they developed the original Macintosh. When Jobs was forced to resign from Apple in 1985, Tribble followed Jobs and co-founded another computer company NeXT Computer. LOS ANGELES, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Clinical and teaching microbiology laboratories are linked with a nationwide salmonella outbreak in the United States that has killed one person and sickened dozens of others, health officials confirmed on Friday.Since August, about 73 people in 35 states have been sickened by salmonella bacteria, and some of those cases involve a strain of Salmonella typhimurium sold commercially to laboratories, officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in remarks published by msnbc.com.Illnesses have been tied to laboratories from Alaska to New York, with most reporting one or two cases. Five cases have been reported in Washington state and four in Minnesota.The first illness occurred late August and the most recent cases were reported March 8, according to the CDC.The patients include employees and students of the laboratories, as well as children in the homes of people who work or study at the labs.Patients ranged in age from less than one to 91, with a median age of 24, the CDC said.Cases that developed after March 19 may not yet be included in the total because of the lag time in assessing and reporting illness, said the report.CDC officials warned that bacteria used in the labs can be transmitted through contaminated lab coats, pens, notebooks, car keys and other items brought into the labs.The CDC is working with local and state health departments, the American Society for Microbiology and the Association of Public Health Laboratories to track the outbreak, the report said.Salmonella infections typically result in diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- China will impose tax on the one-off subsidy to people taking early retirement, the State Administration of Taxation (SAT) said Sunday.The SAT said the early retirement subsidy, which is not tax-free retirement income, should be imposed with personal income tax.However, the tax will be calculated after the subsidy is divided by the months between the date of the completion of retirement formalities and the corresponding legal retirement date, the SAT said.
