Worth Star-Telegram, the massive fire is burning at a Poly-America warehouse in Grand Prarie, Texas. The company makes several products out of polyethylene plastic, including construction film and trash bags.According to the Star-Telegram, the fire was first reported at about midnight local time. Florida is once again in the crosshairs of Tropical Storm Eta as the slow-moving system meanders its way toward Florida’s Gulf Coast.On Tuesday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm warning for the Dry Tortugas, and a tropical storm watches for parts of Florida's west coast, including the Tampa area.The storm has top sustained winds of 60 mph and has been drifting off the northwest coast of Cuba since early Monday after Eta went over the Florida Keys. The tropical storm’s outer bands have been raking the Florida peninsula for days.As it turns more toward the north, Eta is forecast to remain a tropical storm until Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Eta’s forecast cone does not bring the center of it over land until then, but its outer rain bands are expected to dump heavy rain in parts of Florida that could lead to flooding.Eta was the 12th named system to strike the US this hurricane season, setting a record. This hurricane season set a new record on Monday for most named systems with 29 after the formation of Theta in the eastern Atlantic.Theta marks the deepest jaunt down the Greek hurricane naming list. Theta is the seventh storm this season named after a letter in the Greek alphabet. The only other time the Greek alphabet has been used was in 2005.Eta previously struck Central America as a powerful Category 4 hurricane last week.The Atlantic hurricane season still has another three weeks to go, and it’s not unheard of for a system to develop in December if conditions are favorable, like they have been for much of 2020. 1602

Former prisoners are helping former prisoners break in to college courses.  The Urban Scholars Union is a relatively new organization created by ex-cons for ex-cons looking to better themselves through education. USU’s President Cesar Garcia said they started 18 months ago at San Diego City College to help “justice impacted” students succeed. “[We want to] empower them and motivate them to be productive members of society,” said Garcia. “We’re not monsters that they make us out to feel and make us out to be,” said San Diego City College student Ryan Rising. “We’re humans that made poor choices.” Rising spent 15 years behind bars for carjacking and attempted extortion but will matriculate to Cal Berkley on a scholarship after earning his Associate’s at City.“I’m super proud of myself,” he said. Garcia, who served seven years for a list of crimes, said the USU provides a space for former prisoners to get help, guidance, and support. The organization recently expanded to Southwestern College and is working on helping students at Mesa and Grossmont Colleges. USU also recently received its largest donation to date.  Current prisoners at Donovan Correctional in Otay Mesa donated ,000 to USU for scholarships and grants for former prisoners. “It just goes to show you how we do look out for each other,” said Garcia. “We just need go out and advocate to erase all these stigmas,” said Rising. 1470

Four San Diego lawmakers are proposing a more than billion solution to stop sewage from Mexico from contaminating South County beaches.The four members of congress, all Democrats, announced the plans at a news conference Monday. Their legislative acts would free up funds to pay for cross border infrastructure projects that would keep sewage from flowing up from the Tijuana River and the Punta Bandera treatment plant. The flow goes into the waters off Imperial Beach and Coronado, and has led to numerous closures. "We have an emergency along the border. It is sewage," said Rep. Juan Vargas, whose 51st district includes Imperial Beach. "Let's quit talking about other things. it's sewage right here, let's do something. We need money, we have the projects. Let's get going." Vargas, joined by Reps. Scott Peters, Susan Davis and Mike Levin, said the will to fix these problems comes down to funding. A bill introduced by Vargas and Peters would increase the North American Development Bank's capital by .5 billion to finance infrastructure projects. Additionally, Levin has introduced legislation to authorize 0 million a year for five years through the Border Water Infrastructure Fund. Mexico would be expected to contribute to the projects financially, but there would be exemptions for financial or national security reasons.
