(KGTV) -- A man was arrested early Wednesday morning after police said he broke into a Chula Vista woman's home and took a shower.At around 4:30 a.m., a resident called 911 to report a stranger in her home using her shower, prompting her to flee. She said the man she did not know somehow entered her home as she slept.When officers arrived at the home on Orange Avenue, they called on the man to come out of the house, but he refused to leave and locked himself inside the bathroom.After about an hour, officers entered the house through a window and were able to take the man into custody.The unidentified man was taken to jail, but there is no immediate word on what charges he faces. 715

(KGTV) - Loved ones are grieving the COVID-19 death of a South Bay great-grandfather, while his wife fights for her life on a ventilator.George Torres, 67, first started feeling sick in early November."He had a headache, diarrhea, and shortness of breath," said his daughter Rachel Cedillos.Cedillos says his symptoms got worse and in mid-November. George was taken to the ER, tested positive for COVID-19 and placed on a ventilator one day later.Several days later, his wife of 49 years, Alma came down with her own symptoms. By the end of the month, both of Cedillos' parents were on a ventilator.On December 3, George Torres, a grandfather of nine and a great-grandfather, passed away."Oddly enough, I felt panic. Didn't know what to do. All I could do was just cry," said a tearful Cedillos.Cedillos says her father was always joking and laughing, and made everyone feel comfortable."The friendliest man. The greatest man to talk to about anything ... He was silly almost all the time ... He loved, loved his grandchildren," said Cedillos.He worked as a part-time handyman and Lyft driver seven days a week. Cedillos isn't sure how her father contracted the virus, but says he was diligent about masks, for himself, and his passengers."If they refused, he would refuse to give them a ride," said Cedillos.As COVID-19 cases continue to grow, Cedillos makes this urgent appeal."Please, please be careful. Be responsible. Wear a mask," said Cedillos.As for Cedillo's mother, Cedillos says she's performed well on recent breathing tests, and is hopeful she'll recover. Alma does not yet know her husband has passed."It’s extremely painful knowing we have to tell her weren’t she wakes up," said Cedillos.George did not have any underlying conditions. Chula Vista, CA (KGTV) - A Chula Vista City Council candidate running for District 4 says she is recovering after testing positive for COVID-19.Andrea Cardenas tells 10News she first started feeling symptoms on March 9th. She had a fever of 102, headaches, nausea and stomach pains. So, she called her doctor then went to seek medical care."When I went to Urgent Care, they asked me a few questions," she said. "They asked me if I had been in contact with someone who had tested positive and at the time I didn't know."She said because she is running for city council, she knew she was around many people on election night, but had no idea if anyone was carrying the coronavirus then."They had me do a chest x-ray where they accessed that I had pneumonia," she explained. "They said we could send you to the emergency room and have you tested but they explained the shortage of tests"She said her doctor explained that they were trying to hold the COVID-19 tests for the more vulnerable populations.Cardenas decided to just go home, self isolate, take the medication for pneumonia and hydrate."We have a social responsibility and a community responsibility to stay home," she said.Soon after, she was made aware that she had in fact been in contact with someone who contracted the coronavirus and she was tested immediately on the 16th.Her positive test results didn't come back until the 26th. "When I did test positive, I got a call from the county where they wanted to know my experience, all the symptoms that I had and where I had been," she said.Cardenas said she was fortunate to let the county officials know she had been home the entire time.She tells 10News has not left her home in 21 days and urges other who feel symptoms to immediately self-isolate and call their doctor."The moment that you feel any symptoms, just act as though you have it because it’s better to be safe than sorry," she said.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people who have COVID-19 have mild symptoms and can recover at home without medical care.The County of San Diego urges people to call their doctor or 211 if they have symptoms. 2160

(CNS) - Homicide detectives Thursday were investigating the death of a man found in a Chula Vista bank parking lot.At about 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, a 911 caller reported finding a man down on the ground with blood surrounding him in the parking lot of the Bank America branch on E Street and Third Avenue, Chula Vista police Lt. Jason Deaner said.Officers responded to the scene and found the man with apparent wounds on his body, Deaner said. The man, whose age was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office was called in and will perform an autopsy on the man to determine the cause and manner of death, the lieutenant said.No further details were immediately available. 763
