WARNING: This story contains content that is graphic in nature.LAND O' LAKES, Fla. -- A Pasco County, Florida deputy has been fired after he was arrested for touching a woman against her will and placing semen on her. Joseph Mercado, 25, has been charged with battery. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has confirmed Mercado was terminated after he was arrested on February 28. Mercado and the victim were "NOT involved in an ongoing dating relationship at the time of this incident," according to the arrest affidavit.On February 15, 2018, while Mercado was off-duty, he arrived at the victim's home and told the victim they needed to discuss a "serious incident" that he witnessed. The victim met Mercado outside in the driveway and repeatedly asked him to leave. According to arrest documents, Mercado masturbated in front of the woman. She repeatedly told him to leave. Mercado then used his finger to place semen on the victim's breast, above the neckline of her shirt and then attempted to place it on the victim's lips, prior to her pulling away, according to the arrest affidavit. The victim continued to ask Mercado to leave and she went into her home until he left the property.Mercado was arrested on February 28th without incident.The Sheriff released a statement about the incident: "The Pasco Sheriff's Office ensures discipline is paramount in our organization. WASHINGTON — The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits rose again last week to 885,000 as a resurgence of coronavirus cases threatens the economy’s recovery from its springtime collapse. The number of applications increased from 862,000 the previous week. It showed that nine months after the viral pandemic paralyzed the economy, many employers are still slashing jobs as the pandemic forces more business restrictions and leads many consumers to stay home. Before the coronavirus erupted in March, weekly jobless claims had typically numbered only about 225,000. The far-higher current pace of claims reflects an employment market under stress and diminished job security for many.The new figures were released as federal lawmakers neared a deal for further COVID-19 stimulus, which could include government-issued checks and extended unemployment benefits. 884

Jordan Middle School in Sandy, Utah, Dr. Matt Watts is everything you would expect a junior high school principal to be.Watts is a bit light-hearted.“Hey dude, how was the birthday?” Watts asked a passing student.However, he is always thinking of the well-being of his students.“Whoa guys, please be careful,” he said as he passed a couple of boys roughhousing in the halls.This year, the safety of students all over the country looks different than past school years.“If you walk around the school, you’ll see we’ve got arrows on the floors, signs up everything and even a maximum occupancy in bathrooms,” Watts said.Of course, there is also the mandatory school staple: masks.“That was probably one of the biggest things I was worried about, but the kids have done a fantastic job.”Mt. Jordan Middle school is one of the few schools in the country operating on a normal schedule of five days a week and in-person learning. However, it comes with its challenges.“One of the challenging things has been for teachers to find the balance with physical distancing and still taking care of the kids and kid’s social emotional needs,” Watts said.Teachers like Lindsay Maxfield are being tasked with the delicate balance of keeping their kids on track educationally, while being sensitive to the uncertainty of it all.“The (students) have been able to have a lot of really good discussion, which at the beginning of the year with their masks they were a lot quieter,” teacher Lindsay Maxfield said. “I’ve noticed they’re getting more comfortable speaking out with their masks. That has been a really cool thing to see.”Maxfield knows that at any moment, the teaching model could change and move to an online curriculum.“I didn’t think through all the online different tech issues that sometimes you need to teach the students,” Maxfield said. “Sometimes, we assume that they know how to do everything because they’re so techy and that kind of thing.”As the temperatures start to drop, the possibility of more cases hangs in the air.“A concern now is that it’s getting cold,” Watts said. “We’ve been letting kids eat outside so they can be distant and have that fresh air and now, but the cold is making us rethink what the cafeteria is going to look like.”For now, the school is beating the odds with very few cases of COVID-19.“When we have had to send some kids home, that gets tough because they want to be here,” Watts said.Lifelong educators dealing with a once-in-a-ifetime test, committed to keeping their doors open for as long as possible. 2580

(KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a suspect they say groped a 14-year-old girl at a Vista restaurant.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a man walked into the Panda Express on Main Street in Vista and grabbed a 14-year-old on the buttocks on March 21.The department says the man then left the restaurant driving a black sedan.The suspect is described a black man between 35 to 45-years-old who is five feet, nine inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 573
