SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Padres are heading to the postseason, and while fans can’t attend games at Petco Park, the team is giving the Friar Faithful a chance to cheer them on at the ballpark while in their cars.The Padres Postseason Watch Party will take place during next week’s Wild Card round, with the drive-in event happening in Petco Park’s Lexus Premier Lot on K Street, off 14th Street.RVs and campers will not be allowed at the watch party.The games will be shown on three separate large LED video screens, and fans at the event will be able to choose from different restaurant partners -- depending on the game -- when it comes to the ballpark eats. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says it paid out nearly million in overtime throughout the course of protests and riots in the county.According to the department, ,862,798 was paid out from May 28 through June 4, 2020.The department said more than 24,000 hours were worked throughout the protests.The figure includes overtime for sworn deputies and support staff. They added that, throughout the protests and riots, no one had time off, and that all vacation time was canceled during the unrest.The news comes after rioters set fire to several buildings and vehicles in La Mesa in late May.Several stores were also looted, including Walmart, Target, Vons, and other stores and shopping centers. 737

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thirty roosters abandoned last month are in need of a new home.The roosters were left at an Escondido feed store on Dec. 28, 2019, with a note from the owner explaining they could no longer take care of them, the San Diego Humane Society says.SDHS says the roosters all appear to be healthy and social with each other and humans.Anyone interested in adopting the roosters can do so through SDHS' Escondido campus. Officials advise potential new owners to check with their city to make sure they are allowed to have a rooster, as some city ordinances prohibit the animals.Anyone who is unable to care for their pets are also advised to take them to a SDHS campus rather than abandoning them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego City Council approved dozens of regulation changes Tuesday that Mayor Kevin Faulconer says will increase the supply of housing while lowering development cost.The plan aims to create more homes, lower development costs and promote smart growth.The approval includes changes to the Affordable Housing Density Bonus program, which means developers will be able to build more units in the allotted space.The council also approved Faulconer’s 46 recommended updates to the land development code including easing zoning regulations to create more live/work developments, implementing parking exemptions for designated historic structures and changing ground floor height limits to allow for three-story buildings in 30-feet high limits.Some proposed changes to the Density Bonus Program include: 841

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service is handling nearly 16 billion deliveries this holiday season, a record number.Warren Burton, a program manager at the USPS, says it is a 12 percent increase from last year.“There’s a lot of online shopping,” he said, “a lot more than last year.” As a result, the USPS processing and distribution center at Carmel Mountain Ranch in San Diego added more seasonal workers. About 1,100 people are working around the clock up from the normal staffing of close to 900.“We gear up all year for this time of the year, we know it’s going to be non-stop, high volume-high demand,” Burton added.The White House declared Christmas Eve a federal holiday this year, but Burton says that USPS will remain open on Christmas Eve.“We greatly appreciate the gesture, but we’re going to keep working so we can keep the mail going,” Burton said.He says Dec. 20 is the last day to mail out a package or holiday card to make sure it is delivered by Christmas Day using regular shipping.
