SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- North County leaders, including city mayors and Supervisor Jim Desmond, joined Legoland officials Friday morning in a press conference demanding answers from the state as to when and how they can reopen.They said a letter was sent last week to Gov. Gavin Newsom requesting that the state implement protocols to abide by to reopen, similar to what they established with schools.Legoland's park is mainly outdoors and has been closed since March. Their hotel opened in July and hotel guests can access the main promenade but the park wants to open its doors to the public. The park's president, Kurt Stocks, said Legoland has implemented safety guidelines for the attraction to operate outdoors with sanitizer stations, distance markers and temperature checks upon entering. Stocks said he and city leaders believe the state needs to implement guidelines for all businesses across San Diego county, indoor and outdoor, so employees who were furloughed or laid off can get back to work. At Friday's press conference, leaders also stated they constantly receive calls from residents with questions as to when they can open their businesses back up and hope to provide them with answers sooner than later. "We've heard very little and I recognize the state has to make decisions for businesses across California. but what we're doing today is calling on the state to recognize that San Diego attractions are safe to open." 1445

It is only happening virtually. Because of that, San Diego's hospitality industry is suffering a considerable loss.The 51st Comic-Con International is called Comic-Con @Home. This means, there are no crowds, cos-players, or lines around San Diego's Gaslamp District. The good part is that all panels are free for attendees. The bad part?"We're losing 100% of the Comic-Con business," Daniel Drane, owner of The Field Irish Pub, said.For the last 22 years, Drayne has operated the establishment on 5th Avenue, a street usually packed with visitors during the pop entertainment convention. He says every year, regulars from around the world have drinks and hold meet-ups at his bar. Not this year."We're not just losing business, but there's a loss of some of the people that we've actually known for years," Drayne said.Comic-Con's COVID-shutdown does not just impact Downtown San Diego. Its effects trickle down to the rest of the city and the county.In one week, 'the Con' usually drives in 0 million to the region and fills up almost all of the county's 64,000 hotel rooms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police arrested two people following a pursuit through San Carlos Friday night.Officers say they responded to reports of gunshots near the San Carlos Recreation Center around 9:53 p.m. They said they tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle, but it took off. A five-minute pursuit took place before the suspect’s car crashed near the Jackson and Golfcrest Drives.The suspects rushed out of the vehicle, but one was caught after surrendering at a nearby taco shop.  The other one ran into a nearby housing complex. That suspect surrendered after about a three-minute standoff.Police say they found guns in the car. The suspect's names have not yet been released.  713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - National Guard troops have not been at the border for too long, but are already making their presence felt.Border Patrol officers last week arrested a 31-year-old woman on Interstate 15 they say was transporting 51 bundles of methamphetamine in her vehicle.The woman's vehicle was transported to a Border Patrol facility where agents continued searching the vehicle with the help of National Guardsman who have recently been deployed to the border.RELATED: Border Patrol officials discuss National Guard deployment to US-Mexico borderDuring the secondary search, agents initially did not locate any additional narcotics, officials said. Eventually, a National Guardsman found another 11 bundles of meth hidden deep within a door panel.In all, border agents discovered more than 68 pounds of meth valued at 6,000."Although the California National Guardsman have been on duty for only a couple of weeks, they have quickly fit in and are a great asset in assisting the Border Patrol to protect our communities," San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney Scott said.The woman has been turned over to Riverside County law enforcement and faces narcotics smuggling charges.RELATED: Thousands of kids a year migrate to the US alone.
