(CNN) -- Fear not, Halloween purists: Your beloved holiday will probably remain on October 31. But what's better than one day of witches and vampires roaming the street? Two days of treats!The group that petitioned to move Halloween to the last Saturday of October has a new proposal: Rather than change the date, why not add a whole extra day of spooks and haunts?On Wednesday, the Halloween & Costume Association proposed a new holiday: National Trick or Treat Day. It would fall on the last Saturday of October and thereby extend the official Halloween celebration, rather than moving it.Amending its initial change.org petition that garnered more than 100,000 signatures, the trade group said the new holiday will "enhance the Halloween that we all know and love" and unite the country in the process.The association will partner with Party City to launch #ALLoween, a campaign to promote the new holiday that -- fittingly -- hits stores on Friday, September 13, according to the petition.The association's campaign to shift Halloween to a Saturday began in 2018. Organizers claimed that the change would make the holiday "safer, longer and stress-free."After a year languishing on the petition website, it began picking up steam this month.The group didn't specifically outline just how a Saturday spookfest would make for a better Halloween, but in theory, the festivities could start earlier and end before the sun sets, working parents could accompany their trick-or-treaters, and school-age kids wouldn't miss their bedtimes.And as any child (or former child) can attest, there's nothing spookier than staying up late on a school night.There's a financial aspect, too: Halloween spending is expected to hit billion in 2019, according to the National Retail Federation. Double the celebration might bring double the reason to stock up on fake cobwebs and fun-sized candy.Is another holiday even needed?It's not uncommon for schools and neighborhoods to celebrate Halloween throughout the month of October.Family-friendly parades and weekend block parties make it possible for parents to watch kids closely or enjoy their own Halloween fun. (AP) - A coalition of California students and community groups is threatening to sue the University of California system unless it drops the SAT and ACT exams from its admissions requirements, arguing that the tests favor wealthy, white students at the expense of poorer black and Hispanic students.Lawyers representing three students, the Compton Unified School District and several other organizations sent a letter to the system Tuesday threatening to file a lawsuit if it doesn't end an admissions policy requiring applicants to submit standardized test scores among other documents. The coalition says it's giving the system 10 business days to act, or it will file a state lawsuit alleging discrimination based on race, wealth and disability.The letter adds pressure as dozens of U.S. universities move away from reliance on college entrance exams. Over the last year, nearly 50 schools have made SAT and ACT scores optional, joining about 1,000 others that already made the change, according to FairTest, a group that opposes testing requirements and tracks university policies.The fairness of the tests also has come under renewed fire in the wake of a widespread admissions scandal in which wealthy parents are accused of paying bribes to cheat on their children's exams.University of California officials declined to respond to the letter but said the system was already reviewing its use of standardized tests. President Janet Napolitano requested the review in July 2018, the school said, and a faculty group studying the topic is expected to issue recommendations by the end of this school year.The company that operates the ACT said it works diligently to make sure the test is not biased against any group."ACT test results reflect inequities in access and quality of education, shining a light on where they exist. Blaming standardized tests for differences in educational quality and opportunities that exist will not improve educational outcomes," Ed Colby, an ACT spokesman, said in a statement.The College Board , which operates the SAT, also denied any bias."The notion that the SAT is discriminatory is false," the company said in a statement. And they ultimately argue that schools can evaluate applicants just as well by focusing on their grades and letters from teachers or counselors."With SAT and ACT scores removed, UC admissions officers still have everything they need in a student's application file to make a reasoned decision," the letter said. "Omitting these scores can increase the presence of underrepresented minority students in both the applicant pool and the freshman class and thus reap the benefits of diversity for all students."California Gov. Gavin Newsom raised concerns about the SAT and ACT earlier this month when he vetoed a bill that would have allowed districts to use the exams in place of certain state tests.Newsom, a Democrat, wrote that use of the tests "exacerbates the inequities for underrepresented students, given that performance on these tests is highly correlated with race and parental income, and is not the best predictor for college success."Lawyer Mark Rosenbaum, who represents the groups going after the UC system, said the testing requirement is "the iceberg that the recent college admissions scandal was the tip of."In the admissions scandal, authorities alleged that parents paid up to ,000 to rig their children's SAT and ACT scores, in some cases getting them nearly perfect scores.The University of Chicago became one of the most prominent schools to drop testing requirements when it announced last year it would make the SAT and ACT optional. Spotify and Hulu are joining forces in an attempt to draw more subscribers to their platforms.The companies said Wednesday that a .99 per-month plan will get you access to Spotify's ad-free music streaming service and Hulu's basic package that allows you to stream TV shows and movies with some ad breaks.Paying for both services separately would set you back about — .99 for Spotify Premium and .99 for Hulu.The 71 million people who already have a .99-per-month Spotify Premium subscription will be able to grab the offer beginning Wednesday with an even steeper discount for the first three months. They'll be able to try out the Hulu subscription for .99 -- just one dollar more per month.The .99 offer will be extended to everyone this summer. "This is so manipulative."That's an anchor at a local TV station owned by Sinclair, describing the company's latest mandate, a promotional campaign that sounds like pro-Trump propaganda.Internal documents call the new initiative an "anchor delivered journalistic responsibility message."But the staffers who shared the documents with CNN say the promos are inappropriate -- yet another corporate infringement on local journalism."At my station, everyone was uncomfortable doing it," a local anchor said. The person insisted on anonymity because they believed they would be fired for speaking out.Other local anchors also said the promos were a source of dismay in their newsrooms.As scripted, the promos decry "fake stories" from national news outlets -- echoing President Trump's inflammatory rhetoric about "fake news."The promos are supposed to start airing on local stations later this month. The instructions sent to station news directors say that the 60- and 75-second spots should run frequently "to create maximum reach and frequency."The promo requirements are the latest reason why some Sinclair journalists are upset with the company's Maryland-based management. In recent years Sinclair's owners, the Smith family, have made several programming decisions that reflect a right-wing agenda.Most noticeably, pro-Trump commentaries by former Trump aide Boris Epshteyn have cut into local news time. Local journalists have also bristled at so-called "must run" packages about subjects that aren't relevant to local audiences -- but are hot-button stories for conservatives. The "Terrorism Alert Desk" is a regular segment about security threats around the world.Sinclair's political bent has been a factor in its pending acquisition of Tribune Media. Sinclair is already the biggest owner of local television stations in the country -- with 173 it either owns or operates -- and Tribune will give it dozens more, furthering the company's ambitions. Some analysts believe Sinclair wants to rival Fox News, although officials at Sinclair have rejected those suggestions.The FCC is currently reviewing the Tribune deal. Sinclair critics -- Democratic lawmakers and some of the company's Republican rivals -- have alleged that the FCC has given Sinclair preferential treatment.With all that in mind, these mandated promos show how the company wants to position itself in local markets from coast to coast.The instructions to local stations say that the promos "should play using news time, not commercial time." Like the Epshteyn commentaries, this takes away from local news time."Please produce the attached scripts exactly as they are written," the instructions say. "This copy has been thoroughly tested and speaks to our Journalistic Responsibility as advocates to seek the truth on behalf of the audience."The promos begin with one or two anchors introducing themselves and saying "I'm [we are] extremely proud of the quality, balanced journalism that [proper news brand name of local station] produces. But I'm [we are] concerned about the troubling trend of irresponsible, one sided news stories plaguing our country."Then the media bashing begins."The sharing of biased and false news has become all too common on social media," the script says. "More alarming, national media outlets are publishing these same fake stories without checking facts first. Unfortunately, some members of the national media are using their platforms to push their own personal bias and agenda to control 'exactly what people think' ... This is extremely dangerous to our democracy."Then the anchors are supposed to strike a more positive tone and say that their local station pursues the truth. "We understand Truth is neither politically 'left or right.' Our commitment to factual reporting is the foundation of our credibility, now more than ever."On its face, some of the language is not controversial. But that's precisely why some staffers were so troubled by it. The promo script, they say, belies Sinclair management's actual agenda to tilt reporting to the right."I felt like a POW recording a message," one of the anchors said.Scott Livingston, the company's senior vice president of news, read an identical promo script last year. The promo was aired on Sinclair's stations, and this new initiative is an apparent follow-up."Promo messages, like the one you are referring to, are very common in our industry," Livingston said in a statement to CNN on Tuesday, prior to publication of this article. "This promo addresses the troubling trend of false stories on social media [Livingston's emphasis], and distinguishes our trusted local stations as news destinations where we are committed to honest and accurate reporting. This promo reminds our viewers of this mission."After this story was published, Livingston sent CNN another copy of the script. It had one big difference: The word "national" was missing. Instead, it said "some media outlets" publish "fake stories."The rest of the language remained the same. Livingston said this script was "distributed yesterday to our stations." He declined to answer other questions on the record.The instructions for producing and airing the localized versions went into great detail about how the promos "should look and sound," according to another document obtained by CNN."Talent should dress in jewel tones -- however they should not look political in their dress or attire," one of the documents says. "Avoid total red, blue and purples dresses and suits. Avoid totally red, blue and purple ties, the goal is to look apolitical, neutral, nonpartisan yet professional. Black or charcoal suits for men...females should wear yellow, gold, magenta, cyan, but avoid red, blue or purple."At the end of the promo, viewers are encouraged to send in feedback "if you believe our coverage is unfair."The instructions say that "corporate will monitor the comments and send replies to your audience on your behalf."In other words, local stations are cut out of the interactions with viewers. Workers at a restaurant in Ohio refused to complete a catering order for troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol amid civil unrest over the death of George Floyd. The restaurant chain, Condado Tacos, closed its Columbus-area locations on Tuesday after workers accused the restaurant of firing them for not completing the order. Columbus has had its share of unrest since Thursday night, when protesters broke out the windows to a number of downtown businesses and government buildings.According to the restaurant, one of its restaurants received a catering order that was placed by the Ohio Highway Patrol, with a number of workers refusing to fulfill the order. The restaurant said that management communicated that workers who were uncomfortable with completing the order did not have to work on the order. The restaurant said that a few employees chose not to finish their shifts, and that no one will lose their jobs as a result of Monday’s incident. “Condado was built as a place for everyone, without judgment or fear,” the restaurant said in a statement. “A place where originality and being unique are embraced. We are also a family that cares for and about each other. From the first day we opened our doors, we have included all people as employees and as guests in the Condado world.
