SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Witnesses are coming forward to share what they saw just moments after the fiery crash involving a green Lamborghini Sunday morning.Max Afifi, a taxi driver, was working nearby when he saw the commotion. Afifi took several pictures of the green Lamborghini completely engulfed in flames. He says firefighters were rushing to put out the fire. The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the driver of the car as 33-year-old Michael Llamas, a medical marijuana entrepreneur.SLIDESHOW: Lamborghini crashes downtownAccording to Llamas' LinkedIn page, he helped found the company Medical Marijuana, Inc. They sent 10News the following statement about their former CEO:“The company has learned that Michael Llamas died in a traffic accident over the weekend in San Diego. The company mourns the loss of one of its visionary founders.  Mr. Llamas was an incredible philanthropist and changed countless lives throughout the world.”A female passenger with Llamas at the time of the accident has not been identified, but authorities said she was ejected from the car.Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital, but her condition is unknown.  1199

(KFTV) - Former NFL player Steve Weatherford is putting his best foot forward to help Feeding San Diego this holiday season.The Super Bowl Champion Punter donated more than ,000 to help fund a school pantry for a full month."I feel like it's an honor and a privilege to team up with Feeding San Diego and leverage my blessings to let them know we have some food for you and we also care," he said as Weatherford helped distribute food at Central Elementary on December 20th.Feeding San Diego's school pantry program runs distributions at 40 schools across the city. They focus on giving families fresh food, as opposed to processed packaged items.Weatherford says that's one of the reasons he was drawn to the program."Being in fitness and being a professional athlete, I understand you're only going to be able to perform as well as the fuel you put inside your body," he says.Weatherford also brought his daughters, Carney and Aurora, to help volunteer at the distribution."I've got five kids," he says. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A California state audit found that the University of California wrongly admitted at least 64 wealthy students over the past six years as "favors to donors, family, and friends."California State Auditor Elaine Howle also found in the audit released Tuesday that campus staff falsely designated 22 of the applicants as student-athlete recruits because of donations from or as favors to well-connected families.The University of California, Berkeley, admitted 42 less-qualified applicants based on connections to staff, leadership, and donors.The audit was conducted in response to the national college admissions scandal that embroiled prestigious universities around the country, athletic coaches and dozens of wealthy parents. 756

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Monday morning Escondido Police provided extra police patrols at a local mosque that was targeted on Sunday.Police say the Dar-ul-Arqam Mosque on 6th Avenue was set on fire by an arsonist that has yet to be identified.Worshipers inside the mosque noticed the flames around 3 a.m. on Sunday and were able to put them out before the fire could spread.Lt. Chris Lick with the Escondido Police Department said once police and arson investigators arrived, they determined that the fire was set intentionally. They also found a note left by the suspect.“Graffiti left behind by the suspect made reference to the shooting incident in New Zealand,” said Lt. Lick.The San Diego Police Department has also stepped up patrols at mosques across the city in response the incident in Escondido.San Diego's Anti-Defamation League issued a statement in support of the mosque and worshippers.“This attack appears to be meant to send a signal to the Muslim community” said ADL Regional Director Tammy Gillies. “Sadly, this type of behavior is consistent with the growth in hate crimes, rise in attacks on Muslims, and the surge in anti-Muslim bigotry that we have seen in our country and around the world.”A crowdfunding campaign was launched to help raise money to provide repairs and proper security at the mosque in Escondido.The campaign has received support from people across the country. SAN FRANCISCO (AP and KGTV) — California's state auditor says the California State University system kept .5 billion in discretionary reserves while raising tuition at its 23 campuses and lobbying the Legislature for more funds.Auditor Elaine Howle says in a report released Thursday that CSU put the money, which came primarily from student tuition, in outside accounts rather than in the state treasury.It says CSU accumulated the surplus from 2008 to 2018. That is during the same time it nearly doubled student tuition. CSU did not fully inform legislators and students about its surplus.CSU Chancellor Timothy White said in a statement the report is misleading.
