General Electric is cutting its stock dividend for only the second time since the Great Depression.The company announced Monday that it will cut the dividend from 24 cents to 12 cents per share.GE is one of America's most widely held stocks, and countless shareholders, including retirees, rely on the dividend payments. But the company is under enormous pressure to restore investor confidence. The stock has lost a third of its value this year.The company also cut its dividend in 2009, during the Great Recession. But dividend cuts are rare these days. Google has rolled out a new feature on its Maps app: traffic lights at intersections.Users on an Android and IOS will be able to see the traffic signals at crossroads throughout US cities, according to CNN.According to CNN, the traffic light features have been available in Japan for years.In August, Google unveiled a way for users to see on the app a way to identify easier terrain like beaches and forests with a "color-mapping algorithmic technique." HAMPTON, Va. — Students and teachers across Hampton Roads are preparing to start the school year virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That means empty classrooms for a lot of teachers in the area, including Kecoughtan High School."Now it's a little bit different because you're looking around and going, 'Hey, they're not going to be filled,'" said Mark Mingee, a history and government teacher at the school and a 20-year teaching veteran. "I'm going to be looking at a screen to see their faces, as opposed to seeing them right in front of me."But Mingee is making his classroom a little fuller. He created a fundraiser where people can donate to a scholarship fund and have their picture shown on a desk.Mingee, an avid sports fan, said he got the idea after seeing several leagues around the world fill empty stands with cardboard cutouts."You started to see these images on screens various places, or in the transition of cardboard cutouts of people in the stands," he said. "The more I thought about it, the more I thought, 'Hey, if I'm going to be in my classroom, and I want there to be people around me, the best thing to do is try to emulate that in some way.'"So far, he said many friends, alumni and current students have taken part."We're used to, as teachers, having each one of those seats filled. So, as it appears those seats are filled, it makes you feel like a normal, everyday moment in class," Mingee said. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Wendy Marble has found a big positive to all the cans and bottles piling up during the pandemic."I had all these pop cans sitting around, of course from when they shut the machines down, end of March," Marble told FOX 17 News. "And I decided what can I do with them to you know, make something good come out of them."Marble came up with the idea of using the bottle deposit money to donate a check to Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary."I love animals, I always have," she said. "I just wanted to help them, and it meant something to me to be able to do it."Marble started with the cans she had at home but then decided to also throw the idea out on Facebook.The response was overwhelming."That went crazy. I had people blowing up my phone," she explained. "I had 50,000 cans at my house at one time."That's when Marble enlisted the help of her best friend Tama Allerding; knowing it would take some time for the pair to return all the cans due to daily bottle return limits."When she showed me the cans for the first time I thought I was gonna pass out," recalled Allerding. "Her whole garage was just full."But, it didn't take very long for the money to start adding up.Marble was able to drop off her first check to Mackenzies for just over ,500 dollars."And then I thought, why am I stopping? There are still people that don't want their cans," said Marble."So I got them another thousand and dropped that off."Autumn Russell-Hubert, the General Manager at Mackenzie's, said the money is a big help."Everybody's just stockpiling cans, and for her to go and actually take pop cans in and collect them for Mackenzie's and other rescues, we just thought it was amazing," she said. "Right now with Covid, there's a lot of dogs starting to be relinquished, so that money helps us, help more dogs in need."Marble hasn't slowed down. She's continued to collect cans all over West Michigan, raising money for several other animal rescues."I think probably by the end of November, I will be at [,000 dollars raised]," Marble explained. "It didn't cost me anything other than gas, of course, to pick them up."Marble isn't sure how long that she will be collecting cans, but is passionate about helping animals in need."I'm doing it for the animals, I'm wanting to help," she said. "I really loved being able to help. It made me feel good to be able to do this.
