BALTIMORE — The Frederick County State's Attorney's Office in Maryland indicted a man who knowingly transmitted HIV to several women he met on dating sites.According to officials, the Frederick County Police Department started an investigation in 2017 on 34-year-old Rudolph Jericho Smith after different women told authorities that they believed Smith had infected them with HIV.During the department's investigation, officials were able to conduct witness interviews which informed them that Smith knew of his HIV-positive status since 2014. A search warrant for Smith's blood was executed and a detective confirmed his positive status. The department was later notified that Smith continued to meet women on dating sites and had unprotected sex with them without telling them about his status.Smith has been charged with first degree assault, reckless endangerment and knowing transfer of HIV.The Frederick Police Department is asking anyone who may have had a sexual relationship with Smith around or after July 2017 to leave contact information on the 1069
As of 5 p.m.. ET on Thursday, Hurricane Dorian was holding steady with 85 mph winds in the Atlantic Ocean. Forecast models project the storm could become a dangerous Category 4 hurricane before it reaches land. The storm is slowing its approach to the east coast of Florida and is gaining intensity. The forecast models are mostly consistent Thursday morning. All of the east coast of Florida remains in the cone with Dorian as a Category 4 hurricane moving in along Florida’s coast on Monday morning. The one difference is that the GFS (American Model) takes a weaker Dorian farther north towards Jacksonville.Landfall somewhere between south Georgia and the Florida Keys looks likely on Monday, but the storm may be moving so slowly that impacts could linger into Tuesday. The forecast is for the storm to intensify steadily into a Category 2 hurricane, and then a category 3 during the weekend. The storm is moving toward the northwest at about 13 mph and this general motion is expected to continue through Friday.Florida 1034
Canadian officials on Thursday said that seven people were killed in a plane crash in Kingston, Ontario, which is located along Lake Ontario, near the border with New York. According to CTV, three children were among those killed in Wednesday's plane crash. An official from Canada's Transportation Safety Board said weather may have been a factor. Winds in the area reached 50 MPH around the time of the crash."Pilots are always faced with, you know, obtaining the latest weather, looking at the forecast, looking at the weather along different stations and the weather from one station may vary greatly from another station," Ken Webster from the Transportation Safety Board said. "So at this point, all we have to go on is is we know that it was a deteriorating to some point. So we have to look into exactly the route of the aircraft, where and how the weather was along his route and when he got here, what it was like. So that's what we need to do."The plane took off from Toronto's Buttonville Municipal Airport, and was attempting to land at the airport in Kingston. It is believed that the plane was stopping in Kingston on its way to Quebec City. CTV reported that the plane was an American aircraft. The identities of the seven on board have not been released. There were no survivors, officials said. 1324
BAKERSFIELD, Cali. — A California native is learning that her family tree is a lot larger than she had ever thought after growing up as an only child. Forty-one years late, she found that she has 22 half brothers and sisters that she never knew about.Jennifer Slayton said that she took a 23andme DNA test four months ago and was contacted by one of her half brothers in January. She was then introduced to her 21 other half-siblings shortly after.Slayton said there could be more siblings out there, but she's grateful to have the ones she has.She said that she first learned she was donor conceived at the age of 17. Slayton said that her father was diagnosed with a very serious form of dementia that was hereditary and this caused her to be worried that she would inherit it. That's when her mother informed her that he was not biologically her father. She said that technology limitations at the time kept her from finding her father, but in 2018 her husband wanted to try out the DNA kit for fun. After the results came back, one of her half brothers, Evan, contacted her. She asked how many of them there were and he told Slayton that she was number 21. "They're amazing, like I went and met them for the first time and I was really nervous and I walked in and it was like meeting versions of myself," Slayton said. "Like all of these people have so much in common with me and they are nice, obviously, and they are friendly and we have a lot of the same interests and the same mannerisms, we all talk with our hands a lot."Slayton has since started making new memories with her half siblings and has met her donor. She said that she has several family get-togethers planned and they are all waiting to see if more matches pop up. 1748
