BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- China held a grand reception hereon Friday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Russia as well as the founding of the China-Russia Friendship Association.     Addressing the occasion, China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin described China-Russia relations as in the best period of history, citing frequent high-level exchanges, unprecedented political trust and substantial cooperation in various areas.     "The China-Russia relationship has become one of the most energetic and influential bilateral ties around the world, which not only brought benefit to the two peoples but also contributed to world peace and development," said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Hailing the epoch-making significance of setting up bilateral diplomatic ties, he said Russia-China relations were based on common interests and enhanced trust and support.     "The increasing coordination between the two countries had made a great contribution to the formation of a new world situation," he added.     Some 280 delegates from both countries attended the reception including President Chen Haosu of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and President Mikhail Titarenko of the Moscow-based Russia-China Friendship Association.

SHANGHAI, July 30 (Xinhua) -- China would firmly stick to its moderately easy monetary policy and concrete the recovery momentum of the country's economy, said vice governor of China's central bank on Wednesday. Su Ning, Vice Governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC) made the remarks in a meeting held in the bank's Shanghai-based headquarter, saying a proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy were crucial for sustained growth.     Despite an initial economy recovery resulted from the government's stimulus efforts in the first half, the country still faced severe difficulties and challenges from both domestic and abroad.     In the second half, the PBOC would use a set of monetary policy mix to coordinate a "reasonable" credit structure based on market rules, and to ensure more loans to major infrastructure construction and technology innovation, Said Su.     China's economy rebounded to grow 7.9 percent in the second quarter driven by a surge of fixed-asset investment backed by government's 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package on last September.     Chinese banks lent a record 7.37 trillion yuan in the first half to shore up the economy, which sank to 6.1 percent in the first quarter.

BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said Friday that the role of the United Nations should be bolstered in handling the global economic downturn, achieving sustainable development, and safeguarding world peace and security. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and the largest developing nation, China has always observed the principles of the UN Charter, supported the UN's efforts to improve security, development and human rights and its reform to increase efficiency, Hu said to visiting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon Hu.     "China will continue to join in the UN undertakings and carry out its duties with responsive and constructive attitude, and will work with the international community to build a harmonious world," Hu said. BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday proposed closer cooperation among members of a regional security group to tackle the world economic recession.     "Confronted with the global financial crisis and aiming at a steady economic growth, member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) should work together and seek mutual benefit," Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang told a SCO business forum in Beijing.     The SCO was founded in 2001 to enhance security cooperation among its six member states, namely, China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Mongolia, India, Iran and Pakistan are observers to the regional group. Instead, it offered more opportunities for them to work together," Li said, citing the fact that SCO members are complementary in economies and have an increasingly-connected market.     Although the total population and territories of SCO member states amounted to a quarter and one fifth of the world's total, their overall economic scale and trade volume made up only the world's 11 percent or 10 percent respectively, Li said.     "Thus, there is a huge potential for SCO member states to expand economic and technology cooperation," Li said.     He called for SCO member states to carry out the joint actions to deal with the global slump and accelerate the process of trade and investment liberalization.     He proposed promoting the projects that involved and benefited multiple parties, building infrastructure networks of transportation, communications and energy.     It was necessary to step up cooperation in modern agriculture, emerging industries, high-tech and social welfare so as to benefit the people, Li said.     He vowed that China will unswervingly pursue the path of peaceful development, take a more active part in SCO affairs, fully participate in regional economic and regional cooperation in a bid to work for the welfare of 1.5 billion people within the SCO member states.     The business forum was an important event under the framework of the eighth SCO prime ministers' meeting, which took place on Wednesday.
