WEST ALLIS, Wisc. – A 15-year-old boy was arrested after he ran from police and hid in a tree in West Allis, Wisconsin.The incident started when West Allis Police was called to the 2000 block of S. 116th Street for a report of a disruptive teen -- who also possessed marijuana.According to police, the teen ran into Greenfield Park before they arrived at that address. Officers eventually located him, but the teen swam out to an island in the middle of a lagoon. He then climbed to the top of a tree and refused to come down.Police said the teen eventually came down and he was then arrested. 606

WEST ORANGE, New Jersey (WPIX) — A snowstorm that caused chaos for commuters Thursday also left hundreds of students stranded in New Jersey schools overnight.School buses were unable to get to schools in West Orange, forcing the district to keep the children overnight into Friday.Eight West Orange Public School District schools, including a preschool, had students spend the night.More than 200 students in all slept at West Orange schools.Liberty Middle School housed the most students, with about 25 teachers looking after about 100 students overnight.The school’s principal kept the public updated with pictures and the latest information on their students, who were kept entertained and fed.As of 5:30 a.m. Friday, staff began serving students French toast for breakfast.District officials hoped roads would be clear Friday morning so buses could return the students home, but snow began to fall again.Police escorted students home who were not able to be picked up by their family, school officials said.A handful of students remained at school as of 9 a.m.West Orange public schools will be closed Friday. 1121

WELLINGTON, Fla. - Golf courses and grade-schoolers don’t always go hand in hand but for one 6-year-old in Wellington, it’s a perfect match.The first-grader in question is Brian “Little B” Kelley. He has a long list of hobbies, but at the top of the list is golf.“Every night I have dreams about golf,” said Kelley.He picked it up from his dad, Brian “Big B” Kelley, an admittedly average golfer. The two spent plenty of weekends watching pro golfers on TV before Little B could even talk. Little B caught the bug, big time.“I just watch the pros and learn it,” he said.It mystified the adults around him, including his dad who said, “ next thing you know he’s got this amazing swing that I want.”There’s more to this story than a kid with a ton of talent, "Little B’s" parents Brian and Elizabeth are open about his adoption in Kansas City six years ago when he was three weeks old.“He was five pounds at a month old so I had him in the palm of my hand,” said Big B.His mom, Elizabeth Kelley, describes him as the gift that keeps on giving.“It just is incredible and yes he’s got an incredible talent with golf but that’s not the thing that makes him special, it’s him and who he is,” she said.A focused flexible and driven athlete, his caddy Chris Arbour says he brings an "X factor" to the game and that’s become a priority.“Be kind to people,” is the way Little B describes it.Arbour said, “I’ll be his friend for the rest of my life if he lets me.”He says it’s already made him a better person. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Homeland Security has asked the military to provide more help securing the U.S.-Mexico border, two defense officials said Friday amid a political standoff over President Donald Trump's demand for more money to build a border wall.The acting secretary of defense, Pat Shanahan, has not decided how to respond to the DHS request, but in the past the Pentagon has provided help when asked. At one point last fall there were nearly 5,900 active-duty troops along the border in Texas, Arizona and California to assist border patrol agents and to erect wire barriers. That number now is about 2,350.The defense officials said DHS asked for certain military capabilities, not any number of troops. It will be up to Shanahan to decide whether more active-duty troops are dispatched. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the request for assistance has not yet been fully processed.One of the officials said DHS wants the military to put up concertina wire as barriers along 160 miles of border. That would be in addition to 70 miles of concertina wire that combat engineers put up last fall. If the new work is taken on by the military, it might require an extension of the current deployment beyond its scheduled end Jan. 31. The official said DHS did not specifically ask for an extension, but it has not been ruled out.The troops have been erecting and reinforcing border barriers but are not performing law enforcement tasks or engaging with migrants. Some also have been providing transportation and logistical help as well as medical assistance to troops and to Customs and Border Protection personnel along the border.Many in Congress, including leading Democrats, have criticized the troop deployments as a waste of money and a misuse of military resources.Separately, there are about 2,200 National Guard troops deployed along the border.
