IRVING, Texas – In a letter sent to scouting families Monday, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced its support of the Black Lives Matter movement.The BSA’s National Executive Committee pointed out that the organization wasn’t living up to one of the 12 points of The Scout Law – bravery.“Brave means taking action because it is the right thing to do and being an upstander even when it may prompt criticism from some,” wrote the committee. “We realize we have not been as brave as we should have been because, as Scouts, we must always stand for what is right and take action when the situation demands it.”The BSA went on to say that there is no place for racism in scouting or in its communities, and it won’t be tolerated.“We condemn the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and all those who are not named but are equally important. We hear the anguish, feel the heartbreak, and join the country’s resolve to do better,” the committee wrote.The organization also said it would be introducing a specific diversity and inclusion merit badge that will be required to become an Eagle Scout.“It will build on components within existing merit badges, including the American Cultures and Citizenship in the Community merit badges, which require Scouts to learn about and engage with other groups and cultures to increase understanding and spur positive action,” wrote the committee.Additionally, the BSA is also committing to reviewing every element of its programs to ensure diversity and inclusion are ingrained at every level for participants and volunteers by applying a standard that promotes racial equality and denounces racism, discrimination, inequality and injustice.It’s requiring diversity and inclusion training for all BSA employees starting July 1 and taking action toward introducing a version for volunteersAnd lastly, the organization is conducting a review of property names, events and insignia to build on and enhance the organization’s nearly 30-year ban on use of the Confederate flag and to ensure that symbols of oppression are not in use today or in the future. 2115

In South Tampa, close to the Hillsborough Bay, people didn’t get the flooding that usually comes with heavy rain. Instead they are dealing with the aftermath of high wind; downed trees and branches.The sound of saws cutting through bark will become a familiar one in the next few days, as people try to get rid of the trees uprooted by Irma.Nancy Callahan might not be excited about the work, but would choose it over a different outcome.“My son and his three-year-old and his friend were up in the attic space which is a big big room and bathroom,” Callahan explains. “And if it had gone across the house they could've been killed.”Just a few streets away, another tree fell taking the street's power along with it. “Well I was sure glad the tree felt that way and not the other way,” says Domenic Massari who rode out the storm across the street.The tree barely missed Marcy Mixon’s home.“There was a horrible explosion two of them,” Mixon remembers. “And I knew that the cable box was hit, the tree came down and the whole house shook.”It wasn’t just trees we saw in places they shouldn’t be. This stop light wasn’t doing much good on the ground. This downed billboard was no match for Irma’s wind.At the Dill’s family home clean-up is a family affair. Mia Dill describes Hurricane Irma as scary.“I've never been through a hurricane before,” Dill says. “I didn't know what to expect.”And after making it through the storm, her father says these are moments they appreciate even more.“As a father, you know, of three young children it's very scary,” Tony Dill says. “For someone like me I travel a lot. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — This year has been especially hard on local musicians, who typically rely on gigs in restaurants and clubs to make ends meet. But for the past nine months the pandemic has kept that from happening.Everybody is taking a financial hit this year whether it's a music venue, music artist, even people on the audio/video side of things," said Jake Huber.Before the pandemic, local film maker Jake Huber and live venue owner Mike Angel launched the web TV series called 'Music in Transit' a way to highlight the Circle City's musicians as they perform live shows on IndyGo buses and bus stops."It's really that simple. We put bands on a bus and when it allows for it an audience too," said Angel.Season one was all about surprising new audiences. "You stop in your own tracks and you're like oh, what is this I'm experiencing right now? After a while every single act we had formed a crowd, and through that many acts have reached out to us saying thank you because I've gained a new audience. I've had people buy our record, just from these videos," Huber said.Season Two of Music in Transit will look a bit different. The mobile shows are socially distanced this time around, with a limited crowd. Huber and Angel are hoping season two will allow the world to still see Indianapolis musicians of multiple genre's, who, thanks to pandemic restrictions, could use all the exposure they can get."Hip hop, old country, indie rock, funk. Everything really. INDIANAPOLIS — Kohl's says an issue with their third-party payment system is to blame for holds on customer accounts, unfilled Black Friday orders and even some customers being charged multiple times.Bailey Webster said she ordered a gaming system online on Black Friday at Kohls.com. When she woke up Saturday morning, Webster says she had an email from Kohl's saying the order was canceled because the item was sold out. Instead of canceling the order immediately and returning her funds, Webster said Kohl's tried to re-charge for the item, which was still out of stock.  592
