SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Utah football team arrived in San Diego Wednesday and practiced at Mesa College in Clairemont, five days before facing Northwestern in Monday's Holiday Bowl. The Utes bowl week itinerary includes a joint visit with the Wildcats to U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt on Friday and a trip to the San Diego Zoo on Saturday. The Northwestern team is staying at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina in downtown San Diego and practicing at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. The Wildcats will visit SeaWorld on Saturday. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Two men were wounded when another man opened fire from the passenger's seat of a vehicle on a street in the Encanto neighborhood, police said Tuesday.It happened around 10:10 p.m. Monday on Klauber Avenue near Attix Street, west of 69th Street, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were standing outside their home when a woman drove up in a vehicle, described as a black or white BMW, with a man in the front passenger's seat, Buttle said.The man in the passenger's seat, believed to be in his late 20s, fired at least seven shots and the younger man was struck four times in the stomach while the older man was struck in a buttock and a leg, the officer said.Family members started to transport the victims to a hospital, but they were stopped by police, then paramedics took the victims to a hospital for treatment of their injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Buttle said.No detailed suspect descriptions were immediately available. 1029

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ring doorbell video could provide the break in the strange disappearance of rent checks in North Park.A noise caused Ken Frederick to scramble from his home just past midnight Saturday, downstairs to his business, a property management company on 30th Street. He found junk mail - removed from his mailbox - coated with a sticky substance. He ended up near the front door and found a lone check that a tenant had dropped into the overnight mail slot. He checked his surveillance video, which showed a man in a hoodie appearing to jam some sort of stick-like object into the mail slot, before he removes it and takes off."We feel violated, like someone coming into your home," said Frederick.Frederick dug into his other Ring videos and found one from early last Wednesday morning. It appeared to be the same man, same hoodie, and same stick. This time, after he takes the stick out, he appears to put something in his pocket."If you know somebody's been in your business, it makes you feel insecure," said Frederick.Frederick is checking with his tenants to see if any rent checks put in the slot have disappeared. Another property management company nearby tells 10News they have had about ten rent checks vanish since June.As for the sticky substance, it's a familiar one. In the past year, 10News has reported on thieves 'fishing' checks with glue traps out of local postal collection boxes. The ink is then washed off with a chemical solution, allowing a thief to fill in the blanks.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000.For renters, experts suggest either looking into online payments or making sure to drop off your rent during business hours. 1725

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A five-week-old sea otter found stranded by strong currents in Alaska is now being cared for by SeaWorld San Diego.SeaWorld announced the sea otter pup, Cinder, was found orphaned near Homer, Alaska, on Aug. 18 before being brought to their care last Saturday. Cinder was underweight and dehydrated when she was taken to the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seaward, Alaska.But the young otter pup learned quickly to feed from a bottle and stabilized before making the trip to San Diego.Since the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has deemed her non-releasable, SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Team and veterinarians have provided constant care in the park's sea otter nursery.SeaWorld says Cinder's condition is good and she's adjusting well to her new home. Staff are also acting as a sort of surrogate mother, helping Cinder learn to swim and groom herself.For the time being, the sea otter will remain in the park's nursery. But soon, she'll be introduced to the park's four other female sea otters — which are also rescued orphaned pups.The park hopes to be able to introduce Cinder to park visitors in the near future. 1133
