INDIANAPOLIS – A veteran and retired postal worker missed his funeral after his remains were lost in the mail delivery process.The ashes of Richard Nelson, who once served in the Navy, remain missing.Years after leaving the military, Nelson headed for Arizona and left specific instructions to his family on how he wanted services handled following his death.In July, the funeral home in Arizona mailed Nelson’s remains on August 1, and the tracking number stated it was to arrive in Indianapolis on August 2.Nelson’s nephew, Scott Hare, had plans to drive the ashes to Michigan for services – but he never received the package.The memorial service went on as scheduled and the cemetery plot next to his parents had to be refilled until further notice."I have to keep telling people I don't know anything, there's no closure,” said Hare.Hare said his moments of sorrow were overcome with pride.“At some point, I had to laugh,” said Hare. “He retired from the post office and was lost at the post office. It is rare that inside President Donald Trump's White House that something bipartisan can get accomplished. But that is exactly what has happened when it comes to trade. WHAT CHANGES TODAYFor nearly thirty years, NAFTA, which stands for the North American Free Trade agreement, governed trading between the United States, Mexico and Canada. It basically sets the rules by which companies needed to follow in order to avoid paying a tariff or fee to ship their product within one of those North American countries. In recent years however, Democrats and Republicans have both criticized the agreement as a reason companies moved their jobs overseas, particularly to Mexico or Asian countries. Beginning today, NAFTA is no more with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in effect. WHAT'S DIFFERENTThe trade agreement has been read over and scrutinized by lawyers of Fortune 500 companies for months, but some of the biggest impacts affect the auto industry, the steel industry and dairy farmers. Under the agreement, in order to avoid a tariff, 75% of a car must be built in North America. 70% of the steel and aluminum in a car must also come from North America. It also demands 40-45% of the car be built by workers earning at least /hour. That last provision is key because those new wages are nearly triple what Mexico is paying it's workers right now in some instances. Dairy farmers in the United States will also have expanded access into Canada, which is something the US agricultural community has called for years. WILL IT CREATE JOBSThe White House claims this new deal will result in hundreds of thousands of jobs in the coming years. Regarding whether any new jobs are being created right now, Treasury Department spokeswoman Monica Crowley said it is too soon to tell. "Well it just goes into effect today, but we will see that going forward but the good news that we got today but the good news is that manufacturing has hit a 14 month high in the month of June," Crowley said. 2015

To show their appreciation, the woman and her boyfriend started a GoFundMe page for the homeless man and raised more than 0,000. But in an unexpected twist, the couple and the homeless man are charged with making up the story in a scheme to get money.“[This] highlights the promise and the peril of these sites,” says Anna Laitin, with Consumer Reports. “These incredible stories come out; people really touched by this and obviously wanted to help, wanted to give money. Now it's not clear the story was true.”The website GoFraudMe tracks scams on personal crowdfunding sites and has found more than 200 cases in the past five years.Consumer Reports admits it can be a challenge to know if you're giving to a legitimate cause.“It’s really hard. You really have to read carefully and think,” Laitin says. “And maybe give to ones where you know the person personally or you know somebody who can vouch for it, because otherwise you can get caught up especially in these viral ones.”Also, pay attention to how much money is needed and how much has already been donated. In what is normally quiet Cajun country, the sound of shoveling sand rises above all else right now.“Just filling a few sandbags to make sure that we get any water intrusion through the doorways of house,” said Joe Soudelier, who was filling 28 sandbags in Morgan City, Louisiana.In this region of the state known as Acadiana, there are worries about water coming in courtesy of Hurricane Laura.There are many shrimp trawlers visible along the Louisiana coast. About an hour west of Morgan City, people in Iberia Parish, and in other nearby parishes make a living off the water. Now, though, the water that supports their livelihood is a potential threat to their lives.Storm surge along the Louisiana coast could be more than 10 feet in spots. Coupled with strong winds, they are dual concerns with Hurricane Laura.Still, many here won’t evacuate, like Shannon Zeringue, who lives in a trailer.“It’s been there for like 30 years,” she said. “Kind of sunk in the ground. So, I think I'll be okay.”There are shelters open for residents, but Zeringue worries about exposure to the coronavirus. She is counting on sandbags for protection and said she regrets the last time she evacuated.“One year we left and we spent all kind of money going and doing everything and it was like - it was just a waste of money,” Zeringue said. “We could’ve just stayed. INDIANAPOLIS -- Jared Fogle is now asking for  million as remuneration for a “conspiracy” to rob him of his fortune he says was orchestrated by judges, the U.S. attorney’s office, FBI investigators and the attorney general of the United States.   Fogle’s latest filing was entered by the court on Monday. In it, the former Subway pitchman – now serving more than 15 years on charges of child porn and sexual conduct with a minor – alleges federal Judge Tanya Walton-Pratt, who sentenced him to prison, two members of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, an Illinois U.S. district court judge and both of his lawyers undertook a “scheme to defraud” Fogle by tricking him into pleading guilty to a false charge.READ | Full?Fogle?plea agreementIn addition to his wrongful imprisonment, Fogle claims he suffered at least million in damages. The suit asks the government to grant him threefold damages as remuneration in the sum of million.The claim – which purports to outline a sprawling RICO case involving fraudulent search warrants, bogus charges and ill-gotten advice from attorneys to agree to pay .4 million in restitution to Fogle’s juvenile victims (at least million of which Fogle had already paid prior to his sentencing) – is the latest attempt by Fogle to get out of the plea he entered in November 2015.Previous such attempts – an apparent “sovereign citizen” defense rejected in November, the demonstrably false claim that Judge Pratt was “biased” because of her two teenage daughters at the time of the sentencing (she had none), and the argument that he pleaded guilty to an “unconstitutional” charge of conspiracy –  have so far been unsuccessful. In addition to this most recent filing, Fogle also has two open civil cases against Pratt and the U.S. government arguing he should be released.Fogle is joined in the RICO case claim by two other defendants: James Nathan Fry and Frank Edwin Pate.Pate, a former resident of Bonham, Texas, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison in November 2015 for wire and mail fraud in connection to a foreign currency trading scheme and ordered to pay .8 million in restitution.Fry was sentenced in October 2013 to more than 17 years in prison and to pay million in restitution for his role in a .65 billion Ponzi scheme, according to the Star Tribune in Minneapolis.Pate and Fry are asking for million and 4 million in restitution, respectively, from judges, FBI agents, assistant U.S. attorneys and IRS employees connected to their cases.In all, the three men’s combined complaint targets 34 defendants and asks for 3 million in damages to be paid to Fogle, Pate and Fry.At least part of Fogle’s motivation behind the RICO suit may have been made clear Wednesday, when he filed a motion to dismiss in his civil suit against Pratt claiming that, because he has filed a RICO suit naming her as a defendant, the entire U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is now a “conflict of interest” forum.Fogle is currently serving his sentence at the federal correctional institute in Englewood, Colorado.
