SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego Navy training school has been closed after a third sailor with ties to the location tested positive for coronavirus.The Navy said the sailor, who tested positive for COVID-19 on March 14, is stationed on the USS Essex and was attending Training Support Command San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego-based biotech company appears to be making huge strides with its experimental COVID-19 vaccine after testing it on monkeys.Inovio Pharmaceuticals is one of more than 100 companies working on a vaccine. It’s one of few to make it to human clinical trials.“We’re much closer to finding a safe and effective vaccine,” said Dr. Kate Broderick, the VP of Research and Development for Inovio. “We’re so excited and feel so confident about the results we’ve got both in animals and our human clinical trials.”Broderick said clinical trials had shown positive results regarding the safety of Inovio’s experimental vaccine.“Our phase one has been our U.S. based trial, and we’re about to start a trial in China,” she said. “We really are looking to test the vaccine all over the world. The immune responses that these people have generated after getting the vaccine, we’re so pleased with those because they’re really broad.”She said the latest positive development came from testing the vaccine on monkeys in what’s called an Animal Challenge Study.“Those monkeys received their vaccine, then just after four months later they received the virus itself, we were able to show they were protected from that,” she said. “What we were able to show in the lungs, and the nose is that those monkeys really were protected from the symptoms of COVID-19.”It will take some time to ensure all testing is done correctly, and the potential vaccine is safe before it is given to the general public.“Realistically we should be looking at a vaccine being available for certain members of the public at the end of 2021,” she said. “Most vaccines historically take 5 to 10 years to be generated and developed; this is really a short time frame.”Broderick, a busy working mom with two young kids at home, hopes the positive results will ease the minds of those anxiously waiting to get back to normal.“I do just want to let you know there is light at the end of the tunnel; there is hope out there,” she said. “Our vaccine is looking very promising there’s other vaccines out there that are looking very good.” 2123

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An appeals court Friday granted a stay against a San Diego judge's recent ruling allowing strip clubs and restaurants to reopen despite the state's coronavirus restrictions.The decision by the Fourth District Court of Appeals, District One, freezes an earlier ruling, forcing restaurants to again only offer takeout and delivery service, per California's recent health order. Any opposition to the state's filing must be submitted by noon Wednesday.Lawyers for the state argued against the Superior Court ruling, saying it was overreach since no restaurants were parties in the suit filed by two strip club operators.RELATED: San Diego County to appeal ruling on strip clubs, restaurants amid health ordersCounty Supervisor Jim Desmond said in a statement the decision one day after some restaurants reopened was "tragic." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Amazon delivery driver was caught on video tossing a package onto a driveway like it was a newspaper, and the customer is not happy about it. “I order books. I’ve ordered Echos. I’ve ordered cameras on Amazon,” Del Cerro resident Yung Jun Kim said. He was worried someone might, one day, steal a package.“I ordered the ring camera to monitor the delivery,” Kim said “The first time the Amazon delivery happened on-camera, the driver drove into the driveway, didn’t even get out of his car, rolled down his window and threw my package onto the driveway."Kim found the package on the porch when he got home. What happened was also caught on video.“It was really great, because my mailman came by about 15 minutes later and he picked it up from the driveway and left it on my doorstep,” Kim said.Kim thinks the Amazon deliver driver threw his neighbor's package as well.“The video showed him pulling into her driveway for about 10 seconds and pulling back out. So, in that time, I don’t think he got out of a car and went into her courtyard and delivered it that way," Kim said. "He probably just threw it on the driveway."This time, Kim’s package was not fragile - but the driver didn't know that. Kim emailed Amazon and complained.“Customer service responded that same day, and they gave me a long apology and said they were going to look into it, which, I don’t know if they did," he said. "They also gave me a credit for my troubles."Kim says he hopes Amazon will get better drivers, because based on the video - they've got at least one with a negative attitude. "It takes very little effort to get out of the car to make a delivery onto a porch," Kim said. 10News reached out to Amazon.
